I totally agree! I'm not a big movie fan at all, but this one was a must-do for me.

I am sure that it will be re-released nationally if it wins major awards at the Oscars. If so, you need to see it on the big screen, where it belongs. It helps carry you back to the time period.

It is still in theatres here, but may be due in part to the fact that it was filmed almost entirely here (in Petersburg and Richmond, Virginia, where our state capitol stood in for the U.S. Capitol, and downtown Petersburg stood in for parts of DC). Our area is steeped in Civil War history, anyway. Come visit and you will find many historical sites -- a good fit for the fim and its authenticity.
