On March 12, 1989, the world of communication was forever changed. Today marks the 25th anniversary of when Al Gore invented the internet. Hard to believe what a large part of our lives it has become over these past 25 years. It is even harder to imagine what our lives would be like without the internet. On this milestone of a day, let us not forget the importance of the net, and how it has transformed society's communication abilities for the better.

How has the internet impacted your lives in the past 25 years? Can you imagine life without it?

Happy 25th anniv, world wide web.

It was probably 1989 when I was first on e-mail. We had IBM mainframe accounts, mostly to run SAS. We could e-mail each other on them, but didn't know anyone else outside our university who was on e-mail, and there was no www yet. So it wasn't all that useful then. Our account names were just numbers, so I was something like 123456@umdd.edu.
