Halloween Party Questions

I would like to add, the night may seem long, but we never have enough time during the party to do all the things we want. We try not to do the candy thing much anymore because of how much time it can take. When we do, we try to hit only the short lines, which, if you can make it to the end of the night are most of the lines. Candy is cheap, the party is not, so we try to do all the party exclusive things. Just my opinion.

Honestly I'd be perfectly fine if we didn't get a single piece of candy. This kid is going to end up with more candy than he needs to eat in a year later that month anyway... lol. How hard would it be to skip candy altogether?

Some candy is in plain sight, like in Fantasy Land. Some are tougher to see and get at, like the one around Tom Sawyer's Launch.

With everything going on he may not notice. Maybe.

This kid is all boy. I'm probably not that lucky. I've been hearing the best strategy is to hit up rides early, do the second parade if there is one, and then candy last. Sound about right?

I've attend MNSSHP in August, September and October. It will be warm at night. A lightweight costume is best, trust me. And plan for rain. It started raining just before dusk last night.

I'd bring your own trick or treat bag. Those plastic bags are small and if you don't get one as soon as you enter MK, they may run out. The lady standing behind me in line kept asking CMs if they had bags as she couldn't get one. I happen to have an extra, so I have it to her. Which was fortunate as when we got the the barrels, there were no bags.

There are signs where all the candy stops are...and long lines. It will be difficult to miss the spots.

Make sure your son naps before the party. You can get in at 4:00 PM with your party ticket. MK closes at 6:00PM for non-party guests, so I used that time to get a bite to eat (mobile ordering is a godsend) and do some shopping. The Castle stage show starts at 8:00 PM, the 1st parade is at 9:15 and the fireworks are at 10:15.

Thank you for all the great advice! Our last fast pass is Peter Pan at 1:30 or something like that. Since we're staying at the Contemporary, I figured we'd get on Peter Pan as close to the start of that window as possible and go straight back to the room for that nap. :)

Good idea. Don't forget to include yourself in that nap. Hopefully October won't be as blistering hot as August...that heat just saps your energy.

He'll have so much fun. It's a great party and I try to go every year.

I never turn down a chance to nap while he's napping! It's the only peace and quiet I get most days. 😂😂😂

And thanks again!

We wen't in October. It was flat out hot the first 4 days, then the temp plummeted and we all had to buy Mickey sweat pants. Seriously, that's what we did since we brought zero warm clothes.

It was a weather anomaly tho, it doesn't usually get that cold. I wanna say it was in the 50's?
Our last trip was late October in 2017 (we went to our first MNSSHP on Halloween night, which was cool), and our first night on property, it was in the mid 40s when we woke up, and didn't get above the mid-60s all day. I know that central Florida can get cool in the fall/winter (even southern Florida-spent a week in Cape Coral in January 2015, the year North America had a brutally cold winter, and the temp dropped to almost the freezing point one night), but when I stepped outside that morning I was like "Seriously, Florida? Come on." Luckily we had our cool weather gear that we were wearing when we left home, so it was all good.

I've lived in Florida over 50 years. I visited WDW every October for the past 8 years. Not once did the temps get that low. I wish they did, it would make party night so much more enjoyable.

@cw1982, I wouldn't concern myself with a sudden freeze hitting Orlando the night you are attending the party. The only time I've frozen my rear off at WDW was in February. Both were anomalies for Central Florida. The trend is to hotter, not cooler.

Party night was fairly warm, but that first day... I'm from Canada, so I am used to cold weather, but that was a slap in the face, walking out to that at 7:30 am when you are expecting something a bit warmer. It did not ruin my first day in the parks at all, but it was kind of weird wearing a hoodie and long pants at WDW.

I've only done that twice....both in February. January is typically the coldest month in Florida. Sadly, we don't get that cold weather, sometimes below freezing, any more. It kills mosquito larvae.

Definitely keep an eye on the weather as it gets closer RE the jacket. Odds are you won't need it, but you never know. They do pass out bags when you enter the park, and may or may not be big enough for you. A sample pic w/ candy is shown below, found the pic here -> http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2009/...uide-to-mickeys-not-so-scary-halloween-party/

So decent sized, but if you plan on doing lots and lots of Trick or Treating, you may fill it up pretty fast. Having a backpack to transfer it into can be a good idea, but all comes down to how much candy you will be trying to get.

You are not limited to one bag. They start you off with one bag per guest, but when that fills up you can get another one. We stored our full bags in the stroller storage area. We didn't really try to get a lot of candy, but when we took restroom breaks they always seemed to be next to the candy lines. And the candy lines are HUGE but don't be discouraged... they move really quick!!

Don't underestimate the time it takes to get ready. I know your costumes are simple and thats a good thing, but when you have to wear something specific it takes longer. Especially if you plan on doing anything to your hair. So the time you normally take to get dressed and get sunscreened, double it if you are doing anything other than just putting on new clothes

We will be in WDW in mid-November this year, and I am expecting warm weather, but I'll make sure we all bring something warmer, just in case. We're probably going to need to keep our sweaters/jackets on anyway while we're driving, until we get into Tennessee, at least.

Good point. I'm only doing a half ponytail with a hair bow, so my hair shouldn't be an issue. But I always budget for extra time. Life with a toddler never goes according to schedules. Lol

We had two preschoolers with us last time. I wanted them to sleep as long as possible, so I didn't wake them up until the last minute. I didn't account for one of them waking up grumpy and not wanting to go, and the other one complaining that she wanted a different dress. Then getting them both to hold still after finally getting them excited about the party was darn near impossible. Then they wouldn't eat anything because they were "only hungry for candy". So...... :banghead::banghead:

Then when we made it down to the buses, one had just left and we had to wait for another. So because we had to wait, my friend decided to go buy some milk and snacks from the store in the resort (even though we had snacks and water packed) and we almost missed the next bus entirely. LOL.

The party was a really great time though. You'll have fun. Just go with the flow and enjoy it.

I would recommend taking your own bag for candy, but not a hard bag like the plastic pumpkins, just a one that is comfortable to carry, while they do have plastic bags they hand out, they aren't the most durable construction as I have seen someone snag one and rip the handle off sending candy all over the place.

It is also a bit of a crap shoot as to how much candy you will end up with... we have experienced stingy CM's that hand out single pieces as well as some that appeared to want to get rid the candy as quickly as possible and literally dumped big hand fulls of candy into bags... The only thing to be aware is that going home you may end up with more candy than you have space for and if you take the candy back as carry on it is a pain to get through security. Last time we had a huge bag of candy which ended up getting dump into one of those plastic security screening bins and an excessive amount of time being screened.
