Halloween Party Questions

My four year old and I are going to the Halloween party on October 10th. I know, it's October, so it'll be busier than if we went in September, but that's when my fall break happens, and, you know... teacher life. 🤷‍♀️

Having said that, I have a couple of questions:

How cold does it get at night at that time of year? Will my son need a light jacket?

Am I overthinking things to think he needs a drawstring bag for trick or treating instead of a traditional pumpkin?

For costumes... I already have a dress that I bought at Hot Topic last year that is a knee-length version of Ariel's dress when she goes into town with Eric. So I figured I'll put my son in a yellow t-shirt that I decorate to make look like Flounder somehow, and maybe a hat to go with it... am I lame to think that's a good idea? I just can't see him enjoying being in the park in a bulky costume.

Thoughts?

Last year was pretty toasty at that time...it’s not until the end of October when you start to possibly get a chilly night.

You're absolutely right to consider single-layer costumes. October nights are not usually "chilly."

1. Yeah, I live in central Florida and the past few years it’s been downright hot thru October. You could check the forecasts right before packing but I’d say it’s doubtful.

2. They give you decent sized bags there, so unless the kiddos just like having a special bag, you don’t need to pack a trick or treat bag OR a light jacket!

3. Costume sounds good- I’d agree that some parents allow their kids to overdress for the party, and then you get a hot, tired kid dragging their costume on the ground after about an hour.

1. Good to know. I'll definitely check the forecast closer to time, but I'm trying to get as much of our clothing planned out now (at least in terms of what kinds we need) so that I'm not scrambling in the days before the trip. Plus planning this is giving me a great distraction from real life. Lol

2. Good to know about the bags! I wasn't sure how that worked. I've never done any of the parties before.

3. Yes!!! I don't want to have to carry around his costume all night, and I don't want him to have a meltdown because he's hot. It's already going to be a fairly long day... luckily we're staying at the Contemporary, so going to the room to rest midday won't involve much traveling.

You’re doing good homework- while I say the jacket is unlikely, there’s at least a decent chance the weather is nicer in October than September, so that could be a blessing in disguise! There may be a bit larger crowds but if it’s below 85 out, it’s worth it

Yeah... surely the crowd won't be as bad as it would be a week or two later. Meh. It is what it is. It's still less of a crowd than we'd see during the day, so I'm good with it.

This may be the only chance I get to do this with just my son, as I'm single now but hoping and praying to not be single forever... lol... so I want to plan this right and enjoy it as much as possible.

It sounds really good so far. We go for a week every year about a week after you- and while there’s crowds (especially Epcot) they don’t seem as bad as the summer, or Xmas, and if your lucky the weather hits that sweet spot of 70-75 and sunny. The night functions are especially nice to be outside in. If I had my druthers, that time frame between the second week in October thru the first week of November is my absolute favorite time of the year there. So at least to me I think you’ve got an A+ plan going!

Thank you! That makes me feel much better :)

We went in October. It was flat out hot the first 4 days, then the temp plummeted and we all had to buy Mickey sweat pants. Seriously, that's what we did since we brought zero warm clothes.

It was a weather anomaly tho, it doesn't usually get that cold. I wanna say it was in the 50's?

I love the costume idea! That sounds so cute! (And I may need to get me one of those dresses).

Absolutely the right idea not to wear anything heavy. I'd pass on the pumpkin tote too... those things take up major room... even though the Mickey ear ones they sell at the parks are soo cute. The bags they give are just fine but you could bring a drawstring backpack in case you want the extra room. It's a late, exciting night, and there'll be so many things going on... costume will probably be the last thing on his mind. :p

Definitely keep an eye on the weather as it gets closer RE the jacket. Odds are you won't need it, but you never know. They do pass out bags when you enter the park, and may or may not be big enough for you. A sample pic w/ candy is shown below, found the pic here -> http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2009/...uide-to-mickeys-not-so-scary-halloween-party/

So decent sized, but if you plan on doing lots and lots of Trick or Treating, you may fill it up pretty fast. Having a backpack to transfer it into can be a good idea, but all comes down to how much candy you will be trying to get.

There are lockers that you can rent if you want to hold the candy stash or a light jacket or costume parts at the front of MK. As you enter the turnstiles they are to the right before going under the train station. Its an option that can be helpful to make it easier on you having to lug things around. The bags they hand out are fairly small and will fill up quickly because of all the candy stations around. You may want to bring something of your own. The lighter fabric costume the better, because you may feel the heat.

I would like to add, the night may seem long, but we never have enough time during the party to do all the things we want. We try not to do the candy thing much anymore because of how much time it can take. When we do, we try to hit only the short lines, which, if you can make it to the end of the night are most of the lines. Candy is cheap, the party is not, so we try to do all the party exclusive things. Just my opinion.
