Disney's Magic Kingdom is expanding its annual Halloween festivities this fall from 10 nights to 13.

Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party -- a G-rated alternative to Universal Orlando's popular Halloween Horror Nights -- is scheduled to take place on select nights between Oct. 1 and Oct. 31.

Disney and Universal have steadily expanded their Halloween events in recent years to keep up with demand. Universal recently announced that it would expand this year's Halloween Horror Nights to include both of its theme parks, Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios.

Disney's event includes trick-or-treating throughout the park, costume parties, storytelling and Mickey's Boo-to-You Halloween Parade.

Tickets are $34.95 for guests age 10 and older and $28.95 for children age 3 to 9. Toddlers younger than 3 are free.

how does that article say that Disney's Halloween offerings are expanding, though? It just talks about what is always there and then says Universal is expanding its Horror Nights. I wish Disney World would do something like Disneyland Paris...they go all out for Halloween...

Exactly my question.

Something they do for Halloween in Paris that I LOVE...
The wraith or ghost thing that "tows" the riverboat around Big Thunder Mtn.

Too Cool.

They are expanding it from 10 nights to 13 nights, so they are just offering it more times, but not actually expanding the offerings. It would be neat to have the ghost drag a ship, but would probably fit better at Epcot because at MK it is "not so scary."

Just A Thought...

Something that came to mind during last year's celebration...

why doesn't Disney keep the not so scary theme in MK and have a horror night's type celebration at the Disney Studios. The theming would be perfect for it, and would draw in some of the people from Universal.

Brilliant!!!! That would be absolutely amazing!!! Of course me being the little chicken I am I would have to definitely choose the Mickey's Not So Scary variety. That would be an amazing alternative though and possibly give families more of an option depending on kids ages & interests!!! Brilliant I tell ya!!!! Belle :sohappy: :sohappy:

Universal was actually expecting that to happen this year. I think that was a big reason why they pushed to both parks so soon.

Believe me, Universal knows the potential Disney has with a Halloween Event and they aren't about to let up. October has always been Universal's month, and they ain't gonna give it up without one heck of a fight.

I think that would be great, and I think Disney could do a heck of a job with it, but since Universal has been doing this in Orlando since the early 90's, and Disney has not, Disney might have the image of a copy-cat. Also, if Disney failed to one-up Universal, that would not be so good.

WDW already has the not-so-scary event going on, along with the food and wine festival, so that may be enough special events for that time of year.

Something that would be interesting and unique-why don't they have CM's in World Showcase telling myths and legends from their respective countries around Halloween? There could even be a few visits from mythical creatures, like dragons in China, live trolls in Norway, and the headless horseman in the American Adventure.

Many, if not most cultures do not celebrate Halloween. Also, ifwould be on top of the Food and Wine Festival, which is crowded enough with the extra food booths and special event areas.

Yeah, I know that Halloween is not a very common holiday, but many other cultures have equivalent holidays, like Mexico's Dia De La Muerta (day of the dead). I was just thinking of collecting all of those celebrations and legends and putting them together, convienently around our Halloween. I wasn't sure about the dates of food and wine.

Does the food and wine festival use Millenium Showplace? If not, that might work for something like this.

Some years....F&W is probably the largest special event at WDW, and uses many facilities in the park that are not used otherwise. The weekends are packed, which is good since it is in the off-season. The event popularity has caused WDW to add 15 more days onto the festival.
