Haagen Dazs Commercial: Pure Poetry

I just wanted to say that I have become absolutely mesmerized by the new Haagen Dazs commercials. They are soooo beautiful and the music that plays during each commercial is so achingly haunting and gorgeous. There are three commercials playing. The 60 second one that introduces Haagen Dazs' philosophy of making quality ice cream, and two 30 second commercials for strawberry and vanilla ice cream.

My favorite is the vanilla ice cream commercial that shows a woman picking vanilla beans at a plantation, and then it begins to snow with the simple words, "start with the finest vanilla, add nothing but cold." The juxtaposition of the white snow flakes falling on the lush greenery of the vanilla plantation is just, well, it's just too beautiful.

You can view all three commercials at their website, and you can even download the theme song from the commercials. These ads really catch your attention not with loud, crass, or flashy images, but a simple piano strain playing over beautiful images with simple words. It works for me!!

What is this "TV" of which you speak? Yesterday electricity, tomorrow cable...maybe. I live in an area with very few "local" stations. Not like RI, where we picked up both Providence and Boston stations without cable or antenna...back in the dark ages. (And yes, I still remember our excitement over our first TV in 1954, and then our first COLOR TV in 1964. I also remember, very vaguely, listening to radio programs with my brothers. ) Maybe by tomorrow I'll be back in the 21st century. ~sigh~
