Guy climbs Mexico

This is my first thread start, so please forgive me if this is in the wrong location or if it has been stated. If so, please delete.

Just saw this on Screamscape and as long as I have been at the parks, this is the first that I have heard of this happening.

Screamscape reader caught an interesting event on his cell phone camera the other night at Epcot as a park guest decided he was going to try to climb to the top of the Mexico pavilion. Making the event a little more scary to guests was the fact that as they got near the top they started to yell “I’m gonna jump!” over and over. Before security or any other CM could arrive on the scene to do anything about it, they quickly climbed down and vanished into the crowd once again. Knowing how fast Disney security usually is, I kind of find it unusual that the crazy climber wasn’t caught. Enjoy the photos.

I'm just glad he didn't jump and cause a bigger scene and horror show for those around. I wonder if he had some issues or just too many trips "Drinking around the world"?

I can't believe I never thought of trying that!!! Dang!!! Now I'm sure there'll be fences, guards, etc. to prevent it from happening again...

There have been thousands of other guests that have caused problems after consuming too much alcohol at Epcot, this guy isn't going to change anything.

I have to admit, it is a tempting proposition.

I have to agree. I always wondered if you could climb up it. Now Disney will probably alter the building in such a way so people can't climb up there. Though I do want to know how he got up there to start climbing. It is a big jump up.

They have a chance to turn lemons into lemonade here. Instead of stairs, make it into a slide that extends out into the lagoon that can be accessed from the inside of the Mexico Pavilion ... instant Attraction.

It's already designed in such a way that it's hard to get started up the side... If you look in the photos, there's a large 7'-8' decorative stone wall at the bottom of the stairs. You have to get up and around the side of that before you can start climbing the actual (very steep) stairs. You can't just start climbing the stairs.

They did something similar at the Coronado Springs' Dig Site pool with the temple stairs waterfall. But in that case the first couple steps are actually designed to be climbed and sat on. They just built a "fence" of fake dead tree branches a couple steps up to prevent people from climbing any higher. (Though I'm sure it's been done).
