Guidebooks for kids

Ok, we are doing a big family vacation in June. My mom, my brother, wife & 2 boys, sister & son & daughter, me, husband & 2 daughters. I am thinking of buying each family a Passporter guidebook for the trip and then helping the kids write down their memories and keeping memento's . The children will range in ages from 2-13 so the older ones can do it on their own. This will be the first onsite visit for my brother & his wife and the first visit to wdw for their boys. My husband loves going to Disney but I am the one who pours over guidebooks, videos, dvds etc. He thinks this is a lame idea. So what do you think? what suggestions do you have for me?

I like Birnbaum's WDW for Kids by Kids.

Its a look at the world thru kids eyes. They rate the rides, give hints, clues to hidden Mickeys, etc. It has puzzles, jokes & some small games. My 9 y/o really loves it . She read it from cover to cover & made her own itinerary.

My 10-yr-old loves Barnbaums for kids by kids. There are puzzles and games that she can do on the plane, plus areas to log her favorites. It is very colorful and kids rate the rides and restaurants.

That's the one we got for our kids. My oldest reads it to my youngest. They are both excited (understatement). We got the Birnbaums 2004 book and another that's a "Hassle Free" book (can't remember the author) that is pretty good. It even has tips on least crowded restrooms.

My daughter loves the Birnbaum's For kids by kids book. She likes to look for the Mickey pictures to see what a ride is like. She reads it cover to cover tons of times before we leave. I recommend that one for families with children.:sohappy:

I went to disney when I was 4 for the first time and I had a blast with the autograph books and things of that similar nature. My nephews who are 5, and 3 also enjoy doing that kinda stuff now. It makes them feel responsible. Plus its always fun to go back over old memories. Your kids will prob appreciate it.

ALright, well, looks like it will be Birnbaums for kids by kids, one for each family. Then I think I'll go with one autograph book per child. That will go nicely with the lanyards and pins I have had stored away for the trip. Thanks for all the info. I think I'll give the books for birthdays so they can read it before we go, bring it with them on the trip as well.

One suggestion. Get a nice thick pen for those autograph books. They are easier for the characters to grab onto. Have the book open to the next blank page & the pen uncapped.
Some of the best pics we have gotten are of the kids with their favorite characters.
