Guide Books?

Hi everyone,

I am visiting Walt Disney World from 13th Dec to 4th Jan 2006. I was wondering which is the best guide book to buy with up to date info on this period and also including christmas 2005?

or at least I feel like I have.

I have found much more info and up to date here on sites like this and All Ears. Give it a try. I've learned tons more than carrying a book around.

But If you want an interesting book to read - and a quick and entertaining one too... I just finished the book by the Imagineers about the Magic Kingdom and I can't wait to go and find the wooden leg named Smith (after Mary Poppins...)by I think either Big Thunder Mountain or Splash mountain. Its a great book.

I always do the cheaters way. I don't buy the guidebooks, instead I opt to borrow them from my library. That way I don't have to pay for them and I can find out all the information I need.

For which book to read, I say read two. 1. Birnbaum's Guide, which is the official line from Disney and 2. THe Unofficial Guide because it is full of good knowledge.

I don't think that is cheating. Thats what libraries are for. :lol:

I bought Birnbaum's guide this year for my g/friend to review. I've been fortunate enought to go to Disney a lot since I was a kid, but she hasn't been much. I found that the guide had lots of good info about everything (including restaurant menu-types). I'd recommend it.

Actually, none of them are really up to date. I prefer Birnbaum's and Fodor's "Walt Disney World with Kids", but if you want updated information, you'll get it from the Internet.

Yes - the great thing about the Internet, but guidebooks are always a great place to start, not to mention easier to carry around than a computer - in most cases!

If you're after a guidebook - I would recommend The Unofficial Guide.
Remember, that since even the most recent editions were published (The Unofficial Guide hit the retail shelves within the last month) there have been many changes and updates - the most up-to-date news and info can be found here on the web

The PassPorter is a unique guidebook with lots of information and features for planning your trip. If you're interested, 2004 editions were available at www.passporter.com for $1.00 plus shipping! I ordered the God/Goddess 5 pack bundle for $3 plus shipping, gave 4 away to friends and family who are also planning a WDW vacation in 2006. I've pre-ordered the 2006 Deluxe kit so I will have all but the most recent changes (180 day ADR's, availablility of park hours 6 months in advance, CRT changes, etc.), but no worry because PassPorter publishes updates online and I frequent allearsnet.com as well.

I had Birnbaum's for our last trip. I'm not sure if I will get one for our trip next year or not. I had an Unofficial Guide too,a great book with lots of tips, but I don't especially care for it.
