Guest fixed an Issue with a CM last week...

It doesn't matter who Mick is. If people want to ride together, they are allowed to, regardless of their relation to one another. In this case, they were simply a group of 5. It was entirely wrong of the CM to not allow Mick to ride with the family, because for all of the CM's purposes, he was a part of that family.

It was also not very proactive of the manager to say "what can I do to help?" That is perhaps the laziest and most nerve-grinding question I hear. It indicates that the manager is looking to do the bare minimum to satisfy the guest and get out of the situation. Instead, they should be going above what the guest wants, to mend the wounds caused by, in this case, the shoddy CM.

That's probably the reason the frontline CM hadn't been fired already, his boss is not much better. Bit of a toxic environment up in space.

So my question is, how did the story end? Did they get to go to the front of the line and ride again? I'm just curious.

And lastly, good for Mick to stand up to the CM. I have new appreciation for the guy, not just because he stood up, but becuase he abandoned his own kids to make another family happy. Most celebrities only do that kind of stuff on camera, he did it out of his own heart. Good for him, good man!

In the CM's defense, grouping guests onto fast-paced, high capacity attractions is one of the single hardest tasks of any frontline theme park job. People often need some form of de-stressing afterward because it's like being forced to keep a game of Tetris going on the harder levels for 45 minutes to an hour straight. Disney leadership also pushes efficiency and capacity so hard that the grouper will end up in a "zone" where they're determined to fill every seat at all costs.

But yeah, shouldn't be happening.

Whoah... I never said the CM was horrible.. in fact I said CM's might not recognize every celebrity, no fault in that. But surely after being told who he was and why he wanted to magic up the guests experience, Yes the CM did botch it.

And again I ask, does a CM have to take at face value that someone is a celebrity just because someone says so?

What difference does it make if he's a celebrity or not? If someone wants to ride in this fashion to get a picture with a certain group of people, it shouldn't matter if they are a celebrity or not, CMs should be accommodating.

Exactly, celebrity status has entirely NOTHING to do with this. Guests wanting to ride together, when it has no impact on where they were in line or hindering another guests experience, is acceptable and the CM just wouldn't accommodate for some odd reason.

what ride was this? I was so confused reading this and not knowing the ride

It was Space Mountain.. and for those asking.. Yes the Manager walked Mick and the Family to the front of the line to ride again and get a photo. When I talked to his kids (they were standing at the end of the ride), and I told them that their dad was hung up dealing with an issue, they said he texted them saying he was about to load again so he'd be out soon. So I assume all went well. I didn't wait around after the manager told him he would accommodate to see the outcome, but it sounds like Mick took care of the family after asking a manager for help. For the record, could have been these rotations I've heard about but when I rode the ride 2 different times later that night that person was no longer anywhere in the ride queue, also could have been on break, or home for the night. If it were me I'd put him somewhere behind the scenes.

Having worked at Kings Island, I don't understand ride rotations.. We had people work 1 ride primarily and then switch to a different ride for full shifts if required, but not rotate positions within rides, or even different rides all together every 45 minutes or whatever Disney does.

I think its worth mentioning in this thread that Mick Foley is a HUGE Disney fan (and theme parks in general) and he is at WDW quite often. Often enough that he knows managers/CMs personally and not only the 'personally' of that he's a quasi-celebrity. And from everything I've ever heard/seen about Mick, he's not the type to throw the 'I'm a celebrity' line around very often. Very humble guy.

In this case I can assure you he didn't mention it until the CM told him where the exit was.. again, he was very polite in all regards.. WDW is lucky to have him continue to come and enjoy the park, even if he can only give one family an extra bit of magic..

A lot more than I can say for 2 of the Disney actor kids at HS on the day of the Holiday taping(I grew out of kids Disney shows around 15 years ago so I don't know their names).. were very spoiled and were egging people on to follow them when they knew full and well the kids that would try to chase them down would be shut out and would then laugh about the kids getting shut out..
