News Guest dies, found unresponsive after riding Stardust Racers

Yes, there are solutions that could add additional or different restraints to Stardust Racers without ruining it, for instance, the aforementioned new Vekoma vest restraints like what is used on Siren's Curse - which are very comfortable.

But the fear is, will this stop with just Stardust Racers? Or will every coaster with a lap bar only restraint be forced to get some sort of restraint modification? Because I know darn well that if all these coasters are forced to modify their restraints, most are not going to have flexibility for something comfortable to be added.

We don't know that but I doubt it.

Intimin changed its lap bars on splash boat flumes like JPRA at IOA and Tidal Wave at Busch Gardens before it closed.
As much as I dislike them, especially River Adventure's, I get why for chest impact of face and younger riders is a plus and safer for all.
JP at Japan, never had this change.

Doctor Doom got new more restrictive restraints and other power tower drop rides still have the old ones at every park I have been to.

Report from WKMG/News 6 (Orlando's CBS affiliate) talks about obtaining a new report from OCFD:
On Sept. 17, Orange County Fire Rescue units responded to a medical emergency at Epic Universe. The call came in for an unresponsive patient at the Stardust Racers roller coaster. It took three units seven to 13 minutes to arrive on scene, the report states.

When crews arrived at the attraction platform, the report states two Universal paramedics were already attending to the patient, who was seated on the ride with the restraint bar still in place and an automated external defibrillator (AED) attached. The patient also did not have a pulse.

Crews assisted in lifting the restraint bar and moving the patient to an open area where CPR was performed.

Honestly, that sounds like a long time to someone who does not o ow how typically long it can take(13 def getting there) but 7 min is an incredibly fast response time considering where they had to get to and with two paramedics already onsite and Automatic AED already doing its thing. That hits emotionally to hear those details and imagine it, but that sounds like good response and training based on text.

Health Services at Uni can often get a lot of jokes on them, bht that is some good training and first aid doing what they are trained for in crisis.

For those curious about other restraint options - this is an easy video showing Siren's Curse restraints, which offer a soft harness over your shoulders in addition to the 'gut bar' that comes in from over the top

As a nurse, honestly it feels a little weird that they didn't remove him from the seat to perform proper and more effective CPR. An AED on this patient is not doing anything at all because they don't have a pulse. You can't shock someone with no pulse as the AED is meant to shock an erratic rhythm in place, not restart one. CPR is the only way to treat someone who no longer has a pulse on the scene.

All well and good. The concern I have with going to that will be the narrative from media and non coaster enthusiasts to push for those type of restraints on every coaster with inversions.

I want coasters to be safe and never want to see another accident like this happen again. I also want the narrative of coasters being unsafe and too intense to stop.

You know what's funny?

Universal and these roller coaster manufacturers will do what they need do at the end of this investigation. I have not been on Stardust Racers yet but I will say that having no upper body restraints on VelociCoaster adds significantly to the overall enjoyment of the attraction.

Thats a good point. Alternating AED(now typically automatic) and CPR is typically the way I was trained to better chances. They were probably in crisis thinking of cardiac arrest and nkt further injuring all in a crisis time.

We also have to figure they had to get everyone else safely off and that releases when rides comes to a complete stop at a point that allows it and then had to clear area.

So much going on. It huts more real to hear some of those details.

Hard to say.
