An inside walled off sidewalk is still a shorter walk back to WS than an outside one. Or to Test Track for that matter. 🤷‍♂️
Agreed. I'm just happy one of the bypasses is going away, but I felt the need to specify that it's not genuinely half-open. I do hope that the features in the center are their next task while Journey of Water and the festival area are ongoing. Being able to go in a straight line rather than an arc will seem like a luxury.

I'm wondering the same thing. We'll be there the first week of May, and I wonder what the chances will be for us (as non-APs) to ride by then.
Based on the historical pattern of previews and the assumption that Memorial Day is indeed the target opening date (it’s the target I’ve been hearing for close to two months), I wouldn’t expect anything to the general public at the beginning of May. The normal pattern leading into an opening starts roughly 3 weeks prior to the scheduled opening date with Cast Member Previews, then AP Previews, D23 (sometimes) Previews and Vacation Club Previews. All of those are reservation only to manage loads. Those typically wrap up roughly one week prior to the scheduled opening. There are commonly some media events in the final days leading up to the opening. If history is any indicator I wouldn’t expect the possibility of any sort of ‘soft’ opening until the final days before Memorial Day weekend and I also would not count on it happening. They only happen if the opening prep is going smoothly and even then it’s commonly only for a random few hours at a time and not necessarily every day, etc..

Softs still likely in April, but I’m not sure which groups. Could be CMs-only at that point. It would be pre-booked, so Spring Break crowds should not impact the decision on timing.

Early reviews I’ve heard are that the ride is fantastic.
I hope so, and how are those "insider" reviews compared to other Disney rides 3 months before they have opened from similar "insider" reviews?

Good stuff, If I remember right Ratatouilles first day of AP Previews was Sept 4 and the ride didn't open until Oct 1, hoping for some late April, early May dates.
Rat was a little longer than normal mostly because the attraction had been done for so long so they could slow walk their way to the opening. While there are no indications this one is up to the wire, it seems closer to a normal readiness timeline for opening.

Have we figured out whether the Cosmic Rewind experience will feature multiple true pre-shows? By true pre-show, I mean: guests are moved into a room, the doors close, and there's a specific sequence of events with a beginning and end before they're moved out of the room.

While nobody expects the pre-shows to create an extended multi-part experience like in RotR, it would certainly go a long way to have at least two, and for them to involve some creativity/spectacle.

I'm surprised how little discussion there has been about the pre-shows, and I'm wondering if this is because they're expected to be lacking...

I’m no insider, but I expect at least one preshow. They even showed this off a while back with the Rocket and Groot (AA’s?) that seems like it’s a preshow. I am hoping for some akin to Rise, I don’t think it will be anything near what Rise does with it’s preshows but hopefully at least one great preshow to set the stage. Like Mission Breakout for example, I believe we should get something like that.

Right, at least one pre-show is confirmed (both in the concept art and in the building schematics).

But is everything else - apart from one pre-show and the ride - simply "queue space," or is there another distinct part of the experience?

That's what'll be interesting to see.

I hope the "multi-part experience" continues being employed, at least to a limited degree (even if not anywhere near the extent of RotR), rather than RotR being a total one-off.

I’ve heard the queue space described as impressive. We know about the Galaxarium, some kind of exhibit (like the collector’s fortress), the preshow, and then the recently revealed look at the load. They have really kept this under wraps, but from what we have seen it looks very well themed and impressive. Of course, we don’t know that since we don’t have that many pictures to go off, as well as few insiders.

We don’t even know how the Guardians factor into the ride in the first place.
