Me and a buddy took 50 cases of bottled water to the heroes in NYC....it was difficult to move about in the City...lots of chaos...
several supply depots refused to take the water cuz they had so much already...so i flagged down a truck carrying a backhoe which was working it's way down 8th avenue and the driver gladly hopped out of the truck and, with the help of a couple motorists, we had the 50 cases of water secured on his flatbed and heading directly to the guys doing the job....
we then stopped at a Red Cross mobile unit and gave blood...

I feel pretty good right now.

Woohoo! :) I'm so proud to know you, friend. :)

(PS Someone has a full message box...)

Thank you Maria and Duckie....

You can't imagine the devastation down there....TV does not do it justice....we wormed our way to a point where we had a clear view of the disaster and I was speechless....there are NO words. NO words at all to describe it adequately.
We tried to convince the cops to let us go further cuz we wanted to volunteer to do something...I was willing to crawl into the holes and bring water to the men trying to find people but they said they were over-whelmed with volunteers and it was actually becoming a security issue for them...at least we tried.
I've never seen such patriotism in all my life....never so much anger....never so much resolve....
Today, I'm proud to be an American.

(Duck...I gave my inbox an enema)

It´s a scary thought.... I believe tv is not doing any justice... I would like to be there and be able to help or at least donate something... If watching it on tv makes me so sad, I can´t even think of how devastating it must be to be there... believe me, we are praying for you. Situations like this bring a country together even more than usual, and in this case, I think it is bringing the world together as well.

I think it is a clever thing not to take more volunteers to help... The authorities have to take care of those volunteers too so nothing happens to them while trying ot rescue people, and there has to be an order so they don´t loose more lives. I am sure that if needed, they will let people know.....

Maria-

If I can just add as someone who has watched the non-stop live coverage from Manhattan, they have had problems with "volunteers" going down and acting like tourists, stealing "souveniers" (including a fireman's coat--that person was arrested). People are using the guise of being a volunteer to wander around, get in the way of emergency vehicles, and now, loot the stores that have lost their windows in the explosions....It's not just that they have to keep volunteers safe, it's that they have to supervise them, and they can't spare the staff required for that. They are still using volunteers...just not taking any new ones. Those who have been there working on the bucket brigades or triage centers taking care of rescue workers are still there. The message was NO MORE volunteers--not NO volunteers. And when I've seen what's been going on, I can understand that.... They are now asking for monetary donations to the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Firefighters Fund, and the new Twin Towers fund.

They will rebuild.

I was afraid that would be happenning there... it´s a shame... I didn´t want to mention it, but I was afraid that people would be taking advantage of other´s tragedy... sad to hear it´s happening... :(
Glad to hear they will rebuild!

You should be proud to know that you have done something to help, even if we cant be there, we can all help by praying. :)

Well, when you consider there are 8 million people in New York City alone, there are bound to be a few bad people. I'm pleased that it has only been a few...

Nice picture! :) Michigan, by any chance? ;)
