Grosvenor Resort Hotel Questions

Hey Gang....

I was playing on Expedia the other day...looking for rates and packages for my WDW trip this fall...I would LOVE to stay on Property...but ya know....money is kinda tight......anywho....

I got some great prices on like a 4-5 night stay at the Grosvenor Resort Hotel. I dont hear much about this resort here...so I am going to ask....anybody stay there? Is it nice? Does it have that "disney magical atmosphere"? Is it easy to get to the parks from this resort? How is the transpotation to and from the parks?.... What are your thoughts? Should I stay here?....or stay away from this resort? ;) Any info would be appreciated....

Thanks!

I haven't hardly ever posted here (only second time) but thought I would help out with my experience. I stayed there a year and a half ago and to be totally honest I don't think I would waste my money. Yes it is a quick walk to downtown disney and you can catch there busses but the hotel isn't that nice. The one good thing is the quick walk to the disney busses since the resort ones they use right now are horrible. They don't run on a timely manner and there is usually a very long wait to get on and since they stop at other resorts alog there usually you have to wait for several busses. When I was there this could mean as much as a 2 hour wait. Second the rooms are not that nice. They are left over from many years ago that have just been spruced up. I had to move rooms twice while there due to leaking water and a non-functioning a/c. This was just for a 4-day stay. Since it's rainy season and they like carpet outside on the balcony you will get a nice dose of soour mildewy smells right outside the door to the room. There may be other who have liked it but my experience there was not good. The sad thing is it's really decieving sicne the lobby is somewhat nice so you think you are getting a fairly nice room. Not me at least. Hope that helps

stayed there for my honeymoon

I have to say we had a very nice stay at the Grovesnor. We had a package which offered free breakfast every morning plus an evening or two of dinners free. The wait staff in the dining room were courteous and prompt and just about brought us anything we asked for (e.g. I always have peanut butter on my bagel, and they gladly brought it out for me each morning). The food was good (not haute cuisine, but filling and good). TIP: the first time you are in the dining room and your waiter is a good one, (or if you observe a really good one) ask to be seated at his/her table each meal, if they are on duty. You really get good service then! By the way, they do have character meals at the Grosvenor as well :-) if you are so inclined.

Our room was very nice, a standard hotel room with two queen beds - but we had the "heads-up" to choose an upper floor with a view of the castle and the fireworks were magical to see from up there. We found it to be clean, and all the staff very agreeable to our requests. The elevators were a bit slow, but we usually left the hotel early a.m. and did not return until late evening so we were not bothered by that; if we were transporting ourselves during peak times I guess it would be a hassle.

The pool was nice and clean and the deck chairs clean and fresh.

We even had our characteratures (sp) done in the lobby one night - the artist did a great job for only $10 which is cheap for a Disney souvenier!

It was nice walking to Downtown Disney and also to the Benihana across the road (we went there for dinner one night). While we had a rental car and chose the valet parking so they got our car for us each time - I believe from the brochures that busses are frequent from Downtown Disney.

I would stay there again with no problem. Our dates were in May, BTW - rather recent.

Correct- it is on property, but not owned by Disney. This means the hotel supplies transportation to the parks, not Disney. From what everyone has said in the past the transportation at the "Downtown Disney" hotels are not that good. I stayed at the Wyndham right across from the Grovesnor. I loved the location, but I had a car and did not have to rely on buses.

I've been to WDW 8 times now (7 of those were last year) and the only resort I've stayed in twice is the Grosvenor. The bus system for the downtown disneys is a little slower (buses run every 30 minutes instead of every 20) but it's not as bad as it sounds. The Animal Kingdom buses run every hour once you get to a certain point in the day. The Grosvenor is the last stop for the DD bus, so as soon as you're picked up, you're on your way. The only time you have to wait is coming home. The Grosvenor theming is fun, and the MurderWatch Mystery Dinner Theatre was very worthwhile if you like that sort of thing (but don't try to fit it into a 4 day trip!) Both times we stayed there we were in the wing facing Downtown Disney and could watch the midnight fireworks at Pleasure Island from our room. The rooms themselves were plenty big enough (bigger than the All-Stars, to be sure). The bathroom was a little small, but the area in front of the sink could be closed off to give you more room to move. There was a coffee pot and a basket stocked with different coffees and teas, and most importantly for us...a REFRIGERATOR. It saved us a lot of money to be able to put a couple of 2 liters of soda in the fridge instead of having to buy from machines. The all-night cafe had a really good selection of foods. There were fresh fruits (both whole and pre-cut), hot and cold sandwiches, soup and chili, and lots of other things available there, as well as video rentals to play in the provided VCRs.

The other hotels I've stayed at in this price range are All-Star Music, All-Star Sports, and the Hotel Royal Plaza and the Best Western LBV Resort (also DD hotels). The Grosvenor beats the All-Stars in two important respects: 1) You're much less likely to have loud kids outside your door all morning, and 2) Most of the All-Star buildings are a very long walk from the food court. The Hotel Royal Plaza is a nicer hotel than the Grosvenor (and costs more), but it doesn't have much theming. The Best Western was my least favorite of all of these. Not only do they not have a 24 hour cafe, but they also allow smoking in the main lobby.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel. Hopefully this helps you some.

Going SUnday

I am glad to hear some positive reviews of the Grosvenor, because I am going there Sunday! I have heard so much about the transportation (bad busses, long waits, etc.) and I really don't know what to think about that. If I wanted to get to the MK or Epcot about 30 mins - 1 hr. before official opening, what do I need to do to guarantee that? Also, exactly where do you get picked up by the busses? Is it on Grosvenor property or elsewhere?

Thanks in advance,

-Michael

The food was terrible...oh man, I have such a long list. Basically it was terrible. If you want to stays omehwere nice, try the doubletree guest sweet starting at 99 bucks a night. Trust me it's efinitely worth it :animwink:

I just returned last night from my first stay at the Grosvenor. I ended up choosing this hotel because I wanted to stay on site and was able to get a great rate ($55 per night) with the entertainment card.

The hotel is very clean with a friendly staff. I has a room in the east garden wing. It had two full size beds and was a comfortable size. I never felt crowded like I do at some other hotels.

Because of my schedule I never ate at any of the hotel restaurants. They do have a small 24-hour self service food place in the lobby that has soups, cereals, pastries, cold cuts, salads, snack food, soda, juice, beer and wine. Also, one of the room service options is Pizza Hut which should suit any fussy eaters in your party.

Transportation to/from the parks was okay (but nothing great). The Grosvenor (like all Downtown Disney hotels) uses a different bus system than the "Disney" resorts. The Grosvenor is the last stop on the route so you go directly to the park from the hotel but you may face a standing room only bus. I used the "Downtown Disney Hotel" bus to get to the park in the mornings only. To return I usually took a Disney Transport but to either Disney/MGM or a Disney Resort and transferred to a Disney Marketplace/Pleasure Island bus and then walked back to the hotel (it's right across the street from the Downtown Disney Marketplace).

The key question is "would I stay at the Grosvenor again"? My answer is a definate yes. I recently stayed at the Doubletree Guest Suites at Downtown Disney (due to the fact that there was 6 people in my party) and the next time I go with that many I will get two ajoining rooms at the Grosvenor (I will get more space, one extra bed, be closer to the marketplace, and still save about $20 a night).

Hope this information helps. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.
