We just spent the night at the Great Wolf Lodge down the street from Disneyland. We had a great time. We had a special offer of $200 per night with a $50 dollar food credit. The place is remarkably well themed and is totally geared to kids. It's much better themed than the Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier Hotel. It's like a cross between the Grand Californian and Chuck E Cheese. They even have an AA show similar to the Country Bears but probably closer to Chuck E Cheese.
When you check in they give you free wolf ears so everyone had them on. Everyone gets a wrist bands with a RF id chip in it. This makes it easy to pay for food at the water park, parking and merchandise while leaving your wallet in your room. It also acts as your room key. The rooms are new and hold 7 of us. We got a themed room with a wolf den in it. Part of the room is made up look like a wolf cave and has bunk bed.The rest of the room had a queen size bed and pull out couch.
The hotel sells magic wands that make things happen at lots of locations in the hotel. They are similar to the wands you get at the Discovery Science Center's outside dinosaur exhibit. The kids can go on quests and solve puzzles by finding magic objects to point their wand at. There is even a huge AA dragon to battle. Inside the room's wolf den, the kids could make the AA frogs move and light up the vines and moon. Wand operated treasure and magic screens were everywhere even down the room halls.
The hotel has an arcade, glow in the dark miniature golf and a fight simulator ride. Food is the usual hamburgers, fries, chicken strips and pizza but they do serve beer and other alcohol. The food was a little cheaper than Disneyland or Knotts. Hamburgers were $7. There is also a buffet, ice cream parlor, Dunkin Donuts and a regular sit down restaurant.
The water park is pretty big. There are more than a dozen slides, a baby area, a water fort, boggie boarding and a wave pool. There is also a pool outside. We spent most of the time at the water park. The life guards were friendly and kept people in line. The employees were fantastic. The place seems to be doing pretty well considering how full the hotel was. It's a fun place to take the kids on a special mini vacation. Pictures to come.
