Great steak at WDW

I am looking for somewhere that has an excellent steak, not located in a Park, and where it would be appropriate to have small children. We will be using the dining plan, and would only like to use one dining credit as opposed to two like at Narcoossee's.

Have not been there personally, and cannot vouch for child-friendly, but we constant hear good things about Shula's in Swan/Dolphin. Also, we doubt they take DDP, so maybe OOP. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

I liked the strip steak at Kona Cafe. Sadly, I see it's no longer on the menu. I also liked the octopus appetizer -- NLotM.

In the one credit range I can recommend the NY strip either at the Grand Floridian Café or at Whispering Canyon in the Wilderness Lodge. In addition, the Ale and Compass in the Yacht Club has a good T-Bone. All are in the $35.00 range.

You will love the steak at Yachtsmen Steakhouse at Beach and Yacht Club and people are eating there in their bathing suits, straight from the pool. NOW EVERYONE will tell you about a dress code, but they do not abide by it at the hotel from our experiences eating there

I haven't had the steak, but Ale and Compass at the Yacht Club is exceptional for one credit. It's a casual table service, so it would be fine for kids. My DS8 enjoyed it. The desserts are amazing.

The view from the Yachtsman may be of the pool and one can certainly see people in their bathing suits through the windows, but in the many, many times I’ve had a nice meal there, I’ve never seen anyone seated and dining in their swimwear.

They don’t make you wear a jacket over your shirt, and no tie is required for sure, but I think they draw the line a good bit past bathing suits.

@tbaker84, I can heartily recommend the steak at the Yachtsman and I know that they accommodate small children. I’m not sure if it’s 1 or 2 credits, though, because I’ve never done the dining plan. Just don’t expect to have dinner in your swimsuits (please). ;):D

Ale & Compass is also a fantastic option, I’m sure, although the last time I ate there with kids it was Captains Grille. But if the staff are the same, you and your children will feel very welcome there. Had dinner there once with my cousins and their “not yet tweens”, and we gave the wait staff a huge tip because they were so good with the kids, they whisked them off to some “kids only” area in the restaurant and not only did the grownups have a lovely evening, we had to tear the children away from the waitstaff and their new friends. I hope they kept that element when they refurbed the restaurant into A&C

The OP specifically asked for a 1 credit meal. Yachtsman is signature dining so 2 credits. And I must agree with @Tiggerish I have never once seen anyone dining with a swimsuit on or “straight from the pool”.

My vote is for Grand Floridian Cafe.

I would recommend Teppan Edo for a steak. Their beef is so good, along with everything else. It's also a 1 credit and great for kids.

My wife used to work for Swan and Dolphin and they had a program for her to learn the restaurants. She had a voucher for a free meal at each of the restaurants at the resort which covered basically anything on the menu at each for both of us. So obviously we tried the best options at each one. Shula’s definitely had a great steak. I was a little surprised though by Il Mulino. I normally wouldn’t go for a steak at an Italian restaurant, but being it was free I chose the steak. It was great, and personally I thought it was surprisingly better than Shula’s

As you are using DDP - best choice is Yachtsman.
BEST steak is Shula's - Dolphin. TIW accepted, no DDP.

Coincidentally - or hypocritically - I mentioned in another thread that I don't eat a lot of steak outside of my trips to WDW and when I do I tend to stick to filet mignon (I try not to be snobbish, I just figure if I'm going to eat steak that infrequently, try to get a really good cut). However, the last non-filet I had, I really enjoyed it, it was at Turf Club at Saratoga. Not the most convenient place to get to but if you have a day or evening planned to shop at Disney Springs it's a short boat ride away. 1 credit meal, never terribly crowded outside of perhaps the busiest times of year.

I've never eaten the Strip at Sanaa in Kidani Village but I've heard good things, and being as the windows overlook one of the savannahs, there's a chance of a very pretty view of some of the animals you're currently eating whoops did I type that out loud?

There's also a strip loin at Kona, and a tenderloin at The Wave.

I ate at Trattoria al Forno for the first time during our trip last December and I had the oak grilled strip steak. I thoroughly enjoyed the steak.

I do eat a bit of steak outside of WDW, and I try to stay far away from filet mignon (I prefer something with more flavor). I was going to mention the Turf Club as well. Turf Club is far from a stellar stand out, but there is also nothing wrong with it. The NY Strip there is pretty good (remembering this is WDW and tempering your expectations accordingly) and as you said, it is easy to get a table, and is quite kid friendly.

Agreed... I never order Filet... Doesn't have the flavor a rib eye does or many other cuts...
