Clear image with horizons in the background but looks almost if it were only shot last week. To think it's been a little under 20 years since anyone ha layed their eyes and their ears on this show. Reflections of Earth is great but it would be really nice to see a limited time run of this show.

Thanks for posting this and I am so with you on bringing this back. I love, love, love the 1980's/early 1990's version of Illuminations. The music is so wonderful, and the lighting of the different countries was my favorite part. I liked that they would play a piece that was representative of each country (minus Norway and Morocco), the German cuckoo was the best. And then when they would get to America and Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, I would get goosebumps. If they brought this back I would be the happiest girl in the world.

I would really like to see this show with new building projections on each pavilion, same music but remade and more full sounding. It wouldn't be cheap but it would be a great replacement for the globe and a great way to bring back an old classic in a much more advanced way. The best part is they could pull it off. It would blow Disney Forever out of the water.

I'm sorry, but save for the lasers (how is it possible lasers in 1993 look more powerful than the current??), this show is utter garbage. The pyro is sloppy and the classical music is a snoozefest compared to the inspirational score of the current show. How anyone can seriously claim this is a better show than what we have now is beyond me, borderline delusional even. I suppose for the early 90s it was amazing, but Reflections of Earth was a MAJOR improvement over this hot mess.

To each their own. But to me the only impressive thing about the current Illuminations is the beginning with the fire barges. Then to me it becomes a snooze fest. The globe in the middle is hard to see and hardly anything else is going on with the show for a large portion of the tine when the images are on the globe. I may be "old" but I still have 20/20 vision and even when I have a spot along the rail I still can't see the images that well. The We Go On song is very nice, but the best part of that is at the end so I have to wait through all the boring stuff in the middle.

The classical music of the one shown in the video is classic and many people around the world have enjoyed those songs for many years, and the video doesn't show the whole show, just near the end of the show. Have you watched the entire show? So I guess I am delusional I don't think either show is utter garbage but the original was better than the current one. Sure the technology is a little better now, and if the old show and score was integrated with the new technology it could be even more amazing. Incidentally, I think your post is a little rude and condescending to call people who enjoyed the original over the current show delusional? It seems a little unnecessary. But like I said to each their own.

Well I'm a rude and condescending person so tell me something I don't already know ;) Alas, you're right, we can't all appreciate the artistry that comes in the middle segment of the Reflections of Earth. It takes a special kind of person to truly enjoy it.
Some would say 10/10 eye sight :D

The new laser programming spruced the middle section up.

The show is still a technical tour de force but is using hardware pushing 20-30 years old now. It's had many incremental upgrades over the years but there's only so much that can be done.

In 1988 IllumiNations was a state of the art revelation. Today the pyro design doesn't hold up but many effects, and the whole pavilion chase section, haven't been surpassed.

I agree completely about hardware. One good look at the barges coming by the bridge into the lagoon reveals how dilapidated they are. I'm shocked they even make out on a nightly basis..
Sometimes they don't. Or don't make it back ;)

A new show is proposed in 2-3 years. It's still undecided if it'll be a radical overhaul of RoE or a new show.

I just hope its still Epcot / world showcase related and not based off Disney Movies. I would like to see a new Illuminations with 8 fountains, building projections as they introduce the nations and keep the globe but also serve as the laser barge with an ending with non stop fireworks along with a remake of the original score and more cinematic sounding.

Good point about them not adding music from Disney movies. It sounds like you have some good idea, maybe Disney should hire you! :)

Well, at least you admit it. Artistry in the middle section huh?! I guess only someone like me would be would prefer tried and true classic music enjoyed by generations to something that is synchronized to a tv screen albeit on a big sphere in water. I really don't want to argue with a random person on the internet who admits they are a jerk and clearly more artistic than me. So you don't have to bother responding to me. My mistake in thinking this thread was supposed to be about a little love for the old Illuminations.

I agree to a point, the earth is incredible when it showes the sea, land and the surroundings change along with it but once you go along the timeline it drags, it's better now that they have added the lasers but there is nothing more charming and fun than having the buildings light up and do their own show. The original Illuminations had the perfect balance of laser images, lights and pyro sequences. In my opinion they should have just worked off that show and added new scenes and elements. Sometimes just a simple abstract light show to some of he worlds greatest most popular music is all you really need. It was fun seeing the country's light up and have that one country you were standing in light up
