Great Movie Ride? Why the hype recently?

I'm visiting the parks this week for the 9th time. Every day I open the MDE app, I see that the Great Movie Ride constantly has wait times of 60+min. I've never seen it so long. I'm genuinely curious, why all the hype? Did the TCM sponsorship add new scenes or anything that justifies the wait?

No new scenes... Just new interest because of the sponshorship

Well, it IS the summer season. Surely that might have something to do with increased attendance and hence increased ride times, even on TGMR?

A few new things in the queue (I noticed some posters on the walls), new film in the beginning, additional narration by Robert Osborne during the ride, and new film at the end (with some of the older scenes remaining).

I don't know if all those really justify the much longer wait times, though. It might just be the time of the year?

With the hat being removed it definitely had a impact on the ride just my two cents like its always busy in the summer regardless but more people are actually looking and pointing and saying wow how nice it is , is that a ride (real tourists lol)

Yeah, I was a little shocked that I actually had to get a Fastpass to ride this in a reasonable amount of time a few weeks ago. I'm glad it's getting some attention though. Also the fact there's like five and a half rides at this park makes a big difference.

The biggest reason I see is FP+. It's the same reason pirates, haunted mansion, small world, spaceship earth... have crazy inflated wait times when they were consistent 10 to 15min wait times before FP+. These rides in no way need FP and are only hindered by Disney making them fast-pass.

It's a vicious cycle; guests get FP+ because the stand-by wait time is high, and then the stand-by wait time is high because so many guests are getting FP+, and so on...

It might be a vicious cycle BUT I am one that loves the FP+ and have used it several trips now. Very easy and convenient. I was never one that cared for the paper FP especially for very popular rides that if you did not get one early in the morn you missed out and had to just wait on standby lines. I am not an early riser when on vacation so FP+ has given us more flexibility to get the very popular rides done with little to no wait.
But agree that the last few years is probably why the less popular rides may have longer waits now. :)

I always go to WDW in the summer and never seen the ride have more than a 15 minute wait. I think the hat blocked it so people didn't know it was there and now the hat is gone, people can see it and/or think it is new so are crowding in.

That's what I was thinking. That and it's a low capacity park. I just thought there was something new. The narration was good but not worth the time I waited.

If Fast Pass+ is working properly, there is no mathematical reason the standby should be higher. They are simply giving out too many Fast Pass+ tickets if that's the case for these rides.

I agree Fast Pass+ shouldn't exist for most omnimover rides, but I think if it's going to exist, they should be able to implement it without messing up the standby line.

It's most likely due to the fact of all the attractions that have been closed at this park. Makes all of the rest of the rides have longer lines. They NEED to start adding back to this park and stop subtracting

And we all know that anything new builds interest. Theres new signage, new sponsorship, new film clips, new look to the attraction inside & out, and popular Robert Osborne's approach to highlighting the movies. So guests are interested in seeing the new fresh look.
