Great Movie ride is looking pretty good

My god... what kind of pixie dusting, apologetic rube are you. Everyone knows that the people that know, know just how awful everything is now. It's all junk. Everyone knows that your type is the reason that the quality of WDW has plummeted to the point where a roadside carnival looks first class by comparison.

Yes, that was all sarcasm! I felt the same as you when I saw it in February.:) It still could use some updated AA's, but, it was the best that i have seen it in quite awhile.

If you could replace one of the scenes in the entire ride with another great movie, what would you replace and with what?

for me it would be the Alien scene, while it was a great movie, it just needs updated. Kids still watch The Wizard of Oz, but who watches Alien anymore. It is a great amount of space too.

Actually I watched Alien for the first time a few days ago, it was on TV :D come to think of it, it's on quite frequently here in UK. I thought it was ok.

Agree. Alien is on Sky movies far more than The Wizard of Oz here in the uk. I'd replace Tarzan (not sure what with though?) as it's probably the weakest of all scenes.

Despite not having been on it in a few years, I can tell you what's wrong with it:

- Footlight Parade, while charming, is underwhelming and basically a bunch of mannequins
- the gangster car frequently malfunctions
- Ripley AKA Sigourney Weaver AA could have a much better likeness
- the Alien in the wall is never recessed and it's just sitting there as you ride by it
- Tarzan looks like a plastic mannequin and Jane looks like a botox disaster

Alien is still extremely popular. A new Alien movie is in the works now, and fans are going nuts. It's an iconic monster and Ripley in the corridor is an iconic scene. I do wish they'd update it, though, with a better AA for Sigourney Weaver.

If I were to replace anything it'd be the Busby Berkley scene at the beginning -- the one that's been broken for many many years.

I'd replace Tarzan with Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Turn that area into the Acme Warehouse.

And have Judge Doom screaming while getting flattened by a steamroller.

Footlight Parade has been that way for as long as I can remember. If it did ever work it wasn't for very long. I don't recall it at all.

I've never seen the gangster car not working.

Sigourney Weaver AA has looked like that since the beginning except that her skin has gotten much more saggy and shiny over the years. Never top notch even at opening.

When there in February, the Alien in the wall was working perfectly.

Tarzan has always been a laugh and none other then the Monkey looked real. Perhaps the elephant too.

You keep using the term "plastic Mannequin"! I believe that's what all the AA's are. ;)

I first went in summer '89, about four months after the park opened, and remember it rotating with bubbles falling from the ceiling. But since then it's been immobile with the projection screens around it.

I always think they should use some women's makeup to powder the faces of the shiny animatronics. Great Movie Ride has some needing it and John from Carousel really needs it.

Actually, John was looking a whole lot less shiny last I saw him. Maybe he washed his face or something. :joyfull: At least, he no longer has that weird thing poking out of his neck anymore.

Still, with the rise of the new "Great Moments" Lincoln at Disneyland, one would think that Disney would make it a standard upgrade for all of their top-tier animatronics. Lifelike facial features, facial hair, and even pores.
