Great Movie Ride/Indy Jones

Wut I see for GMR.

I think that they will gut the whole system. Keep the name "The Great movie ride" and totally change the ride system. Make it a slow moving inside coaster that goes great moment is DISNEY Movies. Kinda like in Rocking Roller coaster but slower and movie stuff not hollywood stuff. This is wut i see. But most likely a indy ride will go in there. it would also be better probaly.

Indiana Jones

I think that if they are going to put the Indiana Jones ride in that is similar to the one in DL, why don't they just use the space of the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular? Wouldn't that make more sense? The stunt spectacular was great but you know everything that's going to happen now and even though I still laugh at some spots, I know there is a plant in there and most of the time it's the same people! If they are going to make Indy into a ride, then just use the space of Indy............doesn't that make more sense?

I think he was saying that the hat would be good as a distraction if the GMR were under construction...not as a ride itself.

Thanks for the welcome. Been around for a long time, but for some reason, just never seem to make it to the message boards very often. As a result, when I do, I never have time to post because I'm so busy catching up on all the great stuff here!! :)

Will try and make an effort to get back here more often though. I usually come to WDWMAGIC.COM when I'm looking for the latest breaking stuff and insider information.

It doesn't have to be themed around a temple just cause the DL one is... my point was to have it themed as if you were going to the theatre and 'became' part of the movie, which in this case would be an Indy movie, the rest of the ride would be Indy themed(temples, ruins... etc.)

All the Indiana Jones rides are themed around temples. The roller coaster in Paris, the ride in California and the ride in Tokyo.

I believe he did make mention to place a ride with the hat but I could be wrong on that.

I believe that you won't see any new attractions or changes to existing attractions based on Indiana Jones or Star Wars until George Lucas gives the OK (which he has the right, contractually). And that won't happen until Uncle Michael makes nicey-nice with George, after ticking him off over the last few years. It's gonna be a looooong wait, kiddies.

What did Eisner do to make Lucas mad? I'm not up with current events I guess.

Indy ride - needs to go in Morocco in EPCOT! Either that or in that rather large space btw Germany and China (could be set in a German castle or Chinese temple).

GMR - I love the concept of going through the classic movies. Particularly, I still LOVE the Indy, Alien, and Wizard of Oz scene (which is STILL INCREDIBLE!) But it really needs to be updated with some newer films, and a more exciting layout. Smaller cars for a more intimate experience. Maybe a faster track with a few rises and falls, etc.

The problem is that Disney tends to favor their own films above others when it comes to new films. This is evident in the later versions of the movie montage at the end of the ride. Lion King, sure. But Armageddon? Slap some Lord of the Rings up there! Of course it's their game and they can play it whichever way they want ultimately. Also I'm sure it might have something to do with film rights procurement. They have had the MGM titles to work with since the ride opened, but what happens when it just becomes Disney Studios? Maybe they do need to revamp it with nothing but Disney scenes.

Sorcerer Mickey Hat

I just wanted to throw in the fact that Disney put up the Sorcerer Mickey hat in front of the Chinese Theater because Disney it cutting ties with MGM.... notice it's the Disney Studios now, not Disney's MGM Studios

Doesn't Disney still have a stake in 'Lord of the Rings' through Miramax?? I think they're still getting a cut of the profits. It would definitely be cool if they could drop us in Mordor or something like that.

An all Disney ride??? But isn't that what the Magic Kingdom is all about? I think they need to work on reexperiencing and adding on to what they already have.

That's what I hear, but if you walk into any of the MGM shops today you will be astounded at the number of items that still bear the Disney/MGM logo. Guess they have to get rid of it before they replace it!

I wish, but I think Miramax was payed off when New Line settled all of the preproduction debts up to that point after buying the rights from them. Maybe I'm wrong though. It would definitely rock to have a LOTR ride or something similar somewhere. Miramax are morons for letting it go.

Well I'm just coming up with solutions in case the MGM partership totally collapses in the future. Have you noticed how the 'Fantasia' look has slowly been overtaking the park?

This might be true, but you should remember the other uses for the Indy stage... It's not just used for the show, it's used for other large events held in the park, whether it be during park hours or for special events after the park closes. I don't see the stage being demolished anytime soon! ;)

When did the name change OFFICIALLY take place? I'm there about once a month, and stuff still says MGM... I'll believe it when I see a change from Disney!

I thought at one time they were working on a new attraction for GMR that was based on the Star Trek holo deck. I believe I had heard that here.

They had talked about including new films like Star Wars, Godzilla, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor and other Disney films so they could break up the deal with MGM.

it's staying

unless they change it NOW during the rehab......it will be the same for a while to come and not go anywhere.

They're not going to spend all of the time and money to close the thing to the public and rehab it just to change it. If they have ideas of changing it soon, they would not undergo a rehab on the ride.
