Trip Report Great Garland! Solo Trip in November...It's Totally Tinsel!

Hello folks! I've been back since November 14th but just now getting around to my report.

Here's the lowdown: I'm Amy and I have taken a couple solo trips to Disney World and Disneyland and have gone many times with my hubs, Brad. This was another solo trip. I usually take my solo trips in the Spring but this year Brad is going to go along on my spring trip. So what's a girl to do with a couple personal days and an annual pass....go solo to Disney.

On Halloween my solo trip was almost derailed...long story short my husband missed the last step to the basement steps and fell onto the concrete floor breaking his right ankle in 2 spots. One of the first things he said to me was, "You are not cancelling your trip because of this." Well, I felt like I probably should cancel if he was having difficulty getting around. Well, things worked out and I was still able to go and he survived my absence. I did make sure his meals were all line up before I left.

So back to the trip....

My dates: November 11 to November 14

Resort: All Start Sports (cheap, clean, on property, and cheap)

Since my flight left Minneapolis early on Saturday morning I decided to spend the night near the airport so I didn't have to worry about driving early that morning. I live about an hour and 15 way from the airport, but I'm a worry wort and would rather not have the hassle on the morning of departure.

So on Friday after work I drove to Minneapolis, actually Bloomington where the Mall of America is. I had dinner at Margaritaville and then relaxed in my hotel room. I got to sleep at a decent time and woke up at 4:15 am feeling rested.

My bacon bbq aioli burger from Margaritaville and an Octoberfest Sam Adams beer.

So went I left the hotel on Saturday morning for my less than 5 minute drive to the airport there was a coating of snow on the ground and on my car. As I was brushing off my car I looked up and the salt truck was driving past. Now I was really glad I decided to stay close to airport instead of driving this morning. I am a total wimp in winter driving even though I live in Wisconsin. Even on my short drive I took it slow as I could see some spots looked a little dicey.

I made it there fine and once through security I went to get my coffee at Caribou (so much better than Starbuck and it started in Minnesota). I was happy to see the Reindeer blend was out, this blend is great and only out at Christmas!

Shortly after getting my coffee I spent about 10 minutes at the gate before boarding started. I was flying out on Spirit and had splurged for one of the big front seats (extra room!) so I boarded, settled in, and enjoyed my coffee and a doughnut I had brought from home and put on a podcast.

As I was enjoying my coffee my row-mate arrived and sat down, his daughter, a girl in her early 20's boarded with him and was in the aisle seat next to him. About a minute after he sat down, he turned to me and asked if I would switch spots with his daughter because he wanted to sit next to her. I thought, you are sitting next to her she is just across the aisle from you and it isn't like she is a young kid that needs your assistance. He looked put out by my answer and said, "Well I guess you did pay for your spot." I just nodded and went back to my relaxing. He eventually convinced the person sitting next to his daughter to switch and then he slept most of the flight. Whatever, I guess.

So this was my view leaving Minneapolis...

And my view when landing in Orlando. It was rainy. Oh well at least it wasn't snow!

Then I was greeted with the mob at Magical Express. I was lucky and found a line to the far end that only had a couple people in it. And I was through in a couple minutes and then waited about 20 minutes for my bus to load.

I might be a little excited. Actually I just did the crazy eyes because it makes Brad laugh.

Soon we were boarding...

And soon I was home!

My room wasn't ready but I checked in with the front desk anyway since there was only one person in line. He was able to give me a room in a better location, but I would have to wait to go to it. That's fine, I checked my backpack with bell services tucked my claim ticket in my purse and headed to the bus stop. Remember this backpack thing later it is important later.....

A bus quickly pulled up and I was off to Epcot, the rain seemed to have stopped while I was at the front desk. Oh, it only seemed to...when the bus arrived at Epcot it was pouring and our bus driver let us off at one of the stops in the middle of the parking lot totally uncovered. I didn't get my poncho out of my purse but instead ran for cover and then put the poncho on. I did not like that bus driver!

I had to exchange my annual pass voucher at Guest Relations (but after I stood in line for 25 minutes I read the paper work and it said I could do so at a ticket booth) and I got my passholder card. I finally got to enter Epcot, luckily as I was standing in line at Guest Relations the rain had cleared for real this time. I was also getting super hungry but I had some fast passes to use before I could eat. My Spaceship Earth one had already expired while I was waiting at Guest Relations and I now had 10 minutes left of my Soarin' one. So off to Soarin' but first a couple pictures with the Food and Wine stuff.

Then it was time for Livin' with the land, or as some call it the farm ride.

IMG_3226.JPG

I haven't seen the Minnie here before, only the Mickey so this was fun.

After Living with the Land it was finally time to start hitting the Food and Wine booths. So I first grabbed a Perrier from Sunshine Season (I don't drink a lot of soda but I love the sparkling water) and hit the Flavors from Fire booth.

As I said I was hungry so I got 3 dishes here. Piggy Wings (excellent), chicken sausage with sweet pancake (it was okay a little too sweet), and the corned beef with essentially potato chips covered in a cheese sauce (good but the cheese sauce was grainy).

The chocolate nitro. Yummy!

And then my favorite for the last three years...the beef skewer from the Patagonia booth.

Then I went to the craft beers area and checked out the display and had the Western Florida beer flight (all of them were so good) and the chilled scotch egg. It was really busy in there so I ended up sharing a table with a couple from Miami. They were fun to talk to.

I always still get excited to see the monorail in Epcot.

I decided to head over to the Festival Center to see the chocolate display, get my annual passholder button, and shop a little. As I passed by Mission Space I remembered they had the new Earth version on the green side. It was a walk on so I decided to check it out. Spoiler alert, it was fine and interesting to experience one time but not very thrilling. On the plus side I was put in a pod with a mom and her two kids and the kids were really into the whole thing and were very excited to press the buttons and do the "work" so that was a hoot to play along with them.

IMG_3277.JPG

I don't know how I feel about the new Capcom. She was okay, but I think I liked the hungover Gary Sinse better (on a podcast I listen to they talked to him and he basically said he was hungover when we shot the Mission Space thing, I thought that was funny.)
IMG_3279.JPG

Probably the last I will see of the Universe of Energy sign.

An artist was doing a painting in the Festival Center, I liked it.

Count me in as well! The Minnie on LWTL is so cute :inlove: I love that extra Disney touch!

I'm here and following along. I really liked the look of that sausage with pancake but I have a terrible sweet tooth.

Thanks for all joining in and following!

I’m in! Always love your trip reports :)

Welcome and thanks so much!

Yum!! That skewer looks delicious!!

It is delicious! I went back the last day of the festival and by the time I made it to the booth they were sold out of skewers. That was at like 4 pm. I was so bummed, but I didn't cry. I kind of wanted to though...

Hi Amy
Glad you are able to still do this trip
Brad sucked it up and put on a brave face for you
We guys are big babies so I am glad he persuaded you to still go

I will follow along as best as I can

Great start so far!!

Max

Usually Brad is a pretty bad patient and he was kind of a baby about it for awhile he started to improve. Every time he asked me to do something for him that I knew he could do on his own I did it but I said "Well if you can't do this yourself soon I'm going to have to cancel my trip." He would respond, "You aren't canceling," and started getting more independent. He did have some friends come and visit him while I was gone so I knew someone was keeping an eye on him.

I'm in and thnx for the Figment topiary pic and the food pics, I won't have to eat for a week:hilarious:

I thought you would like the Figment topiary. I meant to go back and get a better picture but I never did.

Good thing I already ate breakfast, otherwise I'd be raiding the fridge now.:D Glad we went on Universe of Energy this past summer before it closed.

That's the good and bad part about food pictures. I take them to remember good (and bad sometimes) dishes without the calories but it often makes me hungry!

Picking back up with the Festival Center. I got my passholder gift of a button. There was a button given out each month and today they were giving out each month of buttons if people wanted/needed them. So I guess that was a nice perk of going at the end of the festival. Then I continued to the area of the chocolate sculptures. I really don't have artistic ability or a lot of paitence so these types of things always amaze me. There also weren't many people in the area so it was nice to take my time and examine the displays and look at the incredible detail the artists put into them.

I was also impressed with the ceiling of the building, I really wish this building was used more than just a festival center.
