I must admit that ive only been in the building once and didn't do much....is this worth keeping around or would the space be better utilized for something else

6 or 7 years ago it was supposed to be turned into an ESPN Zone. Honestly, if they would just upkeep it and update it to maybe something like Wreck-it Ralph Game Central Station, that would be awesome, but we know that won't happen. It continues to rot and they continue to make a ton of money on it.

I would agree with the article, but I would take it a step further.

DQ is a flat out embarrassment. Keeping it operating in it current state would be akin to opening River Country as is.

The headlining games are absolutely pathetic in terms of graphics and are marred by the fact that they rarely work at 100%. Classic arcade machines are great, but not when nearly everyone has something broken on them.

At this point, gutting the building and adding nothing be Xboxes and Play Stations would be a drastic improvement.

I went for a the first time in years in December. Definitely showing its age--and no, Genie does not work, which makes the elevator ride both pointless and creepy--but at least cleaner than I remembered. Also, far more video games than it used to have, most of which were working. I didn't ride any of the remaining "E ticket" attractions, and seemed obvious they were playing those down--the whole building now feels more like a Dave & Busters clone with a couple random Disney elements thrown in (the fact D&B opened on I-Drive 3 years ago probably has everything to do with that).

Worth $45? Not to me (premium AP here). But leaps and bounds better than it was 5 years ago.

I really hope that a reinvention of DQ is a part of the ongoing plans for Downtown Disney. I think that they could take a look at the cruise ship entertainment offerings for tweens/teens and learn some lessons, and then work with Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft to create something really awesome that could serve as a venue for those companies to offer their best and latest on display, maybe even get a little competition to outdo each other going. If this were done correctly and if the branding were good, this place could become a tween/teen hangout that parents could feel good about dropping their kids off at while they go to a nice dinner at one of the Disney Springs restaurants.

why put any money into the place when it stays crowded all the time? Disney hasn't put any money into the place because they don't need to. Apparently, tourists are easily impressed. On a seperate note, does anyone remember when DQ was in it's hayday and they had the rc car maze downstairs? Now that was a 1 of a kind game! BRING BACK THE CAR MAZE DOWNSTAIRS DISNEY!

Yes, that was pretty awesome, unfortunately it broke down a lot so they took it out.

I wish DisneyQuest could be updated to be similar to say Dave & Buster's or something...

It will be interesting to see what they decide to do with it as they convert DD into Disney Springs, with a big, shiny makeover. Hopefully DisneyQuest gets a makeover as well during this process.
Are there plans for DisneyQuest to be made over? They just spent a few weeks repainting the exterior.

I last went in there two years ago and won't be going back anytime soon. The place was in a terrible state, a lot of the machines were either switched off or just not working properly.

That was true the one and only time I ever went in 2003. I can't imagine the state it's in over a decade later.

For me, DQ is the thing that you do on that weird half day you have before your plane trip home. I'd honestly be a little upset if they got rid of it because I find it to be a nice little send off. I always enjoy the 3-4 hours I spend there before I board the Magical Express. One of my absolute favorite things is the recording studio; for those of you who haven't tried it before, it's basically mad-libs set to music where you choose a song genre and then fill in gaps in the lyrics. One of my fondest Disney memories was when my sister and I recorded our "moody-alternative song with latin undertones" entitled "Nobody Understands Me." I spent the extra $5 to get it put on a CD and get a print out of the lyrics and it was so worth it! Seriously, it is the single worst song I've ever heard in my entire life, but it still cracks me up every time I listen to it.

Wow we loved that thing where you go in and sail your ship and shoot pirate ships down.. I personally hated getting separated from DGS and wandering the levels for an hour before I located him. And it's pretty dirty...I mean actually it is really kind of nasty. As in not clean nasty.

My dad was the opening building maintenance manager, can't tell you how many weekends were spent there w/ my friends during highschool. It's sad to see many of the elements that used to work no longer functioning, as his team took a lot of pride in keeping things going back then.

That being said, I can't believe DQ is still open. The technology and experiences have not aged very well, and I don't think enhancing the graphics or better maintenance will change that fact. Arcade games aren't nearly as popular now that you can get comparable experiences on home consoles (or even on your phone). Dining is generic QS now that Cheesecake Factory left, and they removed all of the unique Disney-themed skill games.

At this point, I think it would be better to scrap most of what's there and focus on more interactive, roleplaying experiences like Sorcerers, Pirates Adventure and Agent P. Maybe do something ala Magiquest. Who knows, maybe this could be the route to using Marvel @ WDW.

I too miss Genie in the elevator ride up. One of the drawbacks are the "free" games that you don't need to pay for as you go. There have been numerous times when a line forms and that entitled kid keeps playing and playing. When I was younger and went to arcades, we put our quarters on the machine and stood there as a placeholder. Nowadays, when the player loses the game, he just continues. Parents need to teach their children that they need to be considerate of others. When I lose a turn, I hit reset once, and if I lose again I move on. If there is no line though, by all means, keep playing. Just my thoughts.
