Ok, I had to mention my dads friend Paula who was a co-worker of his when he was still working. (My dads retired by the way) Anyway she reminds me of a lot of you guys here with her love and enthusiasm for Disney. She goes every year and even belongs to the DVC. I think she's stayed at almost every hotel, she's the one that told us about the Boardwalk and how we should stay there....I'm glad she did!

Anyway, now to the point of this post. Paula had told us that she wouldn't recommend the Grand Floridian because she said that everyone there seemed snobbish. Do you find this to be true? My dad won't stay there now because she told us this.

We have stayed at the GF every year since 98 and we love it! The cast members act the same as they do in the parks! We stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge once to give another resort a try and it's back to the GF for us!! :sohappy: We thought they acted snobby and thought they had the "didn't want anything to do with us" attitude....we say it with many of the cast members their.....and not just to us....

We have had GF cast members leave us A chocolate Mickey in our room with chocolate covered strawberries....SOOO yummy!! :hammer: The maid staff has gone out of their way to help us....And gave us upgrades.....We just love it there! I have heard other people complain about people being snobby.....but I look at it like this....you get treated the way you act.... ha-ha

I hope you give it a try and love the resort as much as we do...Good luck

My husband and I have stayed at the GF many, many times over the years. It is by far our favorite resort also. I have never once had any feeling of it being snobby or stuffy. I think that is just the perception by many people, because it is such an upscale resort (Disney's flagship resort). I have had wonderful experiences there and even on our May trip, we had a major medical problem occur and they went out of their way to help us. I can't see that being a snobby, non-caring thing. Tell your dad he should try the GF sometime. Once we did, we were hooked for life.

We stay at the Polynesian because we DO think it's a little snobbish there. Not the CM's and I don't think she meant the CM's. The people themselves. You can tell there is a difference as soon as you walk by the pool and walk around the grounds. We just aren't comfortable there. No other resort gives us that feeling except for the Grand Floridian.

I think that if you want a fun, laid back, and comfortable resort, I would stay at the Poly or the Boardwalk. The Grand Floridian is nice. I stayed there once in 1998. I just don't think the atmosphere suites me. I'd take the Poly's ambience any day over the GF.

Don't take it the wrong way, I'm sure not everyone is snobbish but we've been there quite a few times and we always feel out of place. The only thing we love to do there is 1900 Park fare. And of course we go at Christmas so the decorations are absolutely gorgeous.

We have always stayed at Port Orleans Riverside due to $$$ constraints, but this year decided to go all out and booked the Grand Floridian in Oct 2003. I too have wondered about how snobbish it will feel. I come from a working class family that has always had to save $ to even go on vacation. My husband and I work hard for what we have and like to enjoy things, but generally still watch the money. We are only able to do GF this year because of the 7 day for 4 day price that WDW offered. I intend to enjoy every aspect and not give hoot about what others think because I am after all paying for it and deserve to be treated like a human being and not by how big my wallet is or how thin and gorgous I am. This is a dream vacation for me to be able to just hop on the monorail and be in MK in just minutes and I intend to live it to the fullest.


But like everyone else....it is good to know the good and bad of a place, so the more info you can supply on GF the better.

Thanks for all the info guys...it has certainly helped!!! If we don't stay there I think I will go with my friend and just visit the hotel just to see that magnificent lobby!:lol: Oh, can non guests of the resort visit the second story of the hotel?

of course the second level is just has M. Mouse Mercantile, Bally, Commander Porters, Ivy Trellis and the entrance to Citricos and V&A. Level 3-5 is controlled access because of it being the Royal Palm Club concierge. I think we are a fun cast. And we are working on it every day. Though we still have to be ladies and gentlemen . Alot of neat little things go on at the resort.

shari- I hope we meet your expectations. Since this is your dream vacation remember to try to live it up. Valet your care and let the staff take care of you.

I've stayed twice... with kids... and am staying there again in October, with 4 KIDS!! The thing is, I have never noticed any "snobbyness" at all,but I have seen lots of kids, and we fit right in. (and we're not snobby, I don't think) This myth needs to die now. Stay where you want, where you like the theming. You just need to decide what works for you.

TravisM, do you work at GF? I was wondering if you could help me with something. My hubby and I are considering taking one night out on our next trip (aug 13 to 22) and letting out BIL and SIL who will be staying with us in our DVC OKW room wacth out 2 year old DD. It would be our 1st night alone since she was born. We were considering getting a room for one night at GF since it will be our 10th wedding aniversary and maybe our only opprotunity to stay there. Right now there is alivablity, but cost is 260 (even with AP discount.) I was wondering if we could get a better deal as a "walk in" closer to the time we needed the room, or if we should just do AK for 120 instead. While 260 might be a good price for a GF room, it seems like a lot to pay when you already do have a hotel room.

If we did try to get a last min room, what would be the best way to do this? Walk in or call? Thanks so much, Mrs. PhD.

260 is probably the lowest you are gonna get unless you have a castmember in the family. As all disney hotels walk ins pay full rack rate. You must make your reservation through CRO in order to get a discount.
