Grand Floridian Theme Park Views?

I just upgraded our room to theme park view at the GF. The CM said the theme park views are now in Boca Chica and Sago Cay, but not Conch Key. Can anyone confirm that? It looks to me that the best views of the Magic Kingdom would be from Conch Key.

I think those two buildings offer theme park views but I think Conch Key offers the best theme park views. I wonder why the CM would say that:shrug:

from allears.net:

Which rooms have the best Magic Kingdom view?
The majority of these rooms are in Boca Chica. You will have to reserve, and pay a premium for, a theme park view.

That is kind of odd as I had a friend that was in a MK view room last year that I am almost 100% sure was in Conch Key (the smell from Narcoosee's was down right intoxicating:slurp:). It is possible that they changed the room classification when they released rates in August. They did have an issue with the view first room they got in Conch Key being blocked by a tree and if I had to guess that might be the reason for the change.

We stayed in Boca Chica last year - with a garden view room. The room was on the 2nd floor on the side that faces the Magic Kingdom. We actually had what I would call "obstructed view" of the castle - we were looking smack dab at the roof of Narcoosees and could just see the tippy top of the highest spire of the castle. It was actually the best room I have ever had - while we could not see the castle, we had a PERFECT view of the fireworks. I watched them every night from my bed (our kids were little and we were in by 9 each night). It was amazing.

The thing is, I want to stay in Conch Key facing the Magic Kingdom, but those aren't considered theme park views. Maybe I should just downgrade to lagoon view and request Conch Key.

The majority of the rooms that are lagoon view in Conch Key do not face MK. You could request one of the rooms that faces MK but it will be luck of the draw as to whether you get it. If you bring up the birds eye view of GF on MSN maps you will also notice that there are several trees obstructing the MK view form Conch Key. Even if you get one of the rooms in Conch facing MK there is a very good chance that your most prominent view might be a pine tree.

We stayed at Boca Chica Rm 8217, 3rd Flr in Sept 08, we had pre booked 'Lagoon View' and could not believe our luck with the view we were given, directly opposite was the Contempary and slightly to the left gave a view of Space Mountain, Cinderella Castle etc. It was absolutely brilliant.

The GF is very liberal with its room definitions. I have paid for the MK view there, only to be behind a tree or actually facing one of the Seven Seas islands.

If this happens to you, don't hesitate to go back to the front desk and kindly state the issue in the most polite way you can. :)

EDIT: Rumor has it that the GF has the fewest number of rooms actually facing the MK on the monorail circuit. My personal experience is that so many trees surround the GF, even the MK-view rooms can be significantly blocked.

Richard, you are correct. Our Theme Park view room was in Conch Key. Here was our view:

Yep. The picture above was from the room we moved to. Our first room, while a very large corner room, had what would have been a lovely MK view completely blocked by a huge tree. Since we had paid for MK view, we asked to be moved and got the room with the view above the next day. One of the CMs at the front desk mentioned that all but 10% of the MK view rooms at the GF have some sort of obstruction. Take with the proverbial grain of salt.

That's the same thing they told me.

Here's my 2 cents:

If there are any MK view rooms obstructed at all and this is the room you are given, Disney should credit you back the difference. If you book a theme park view room and there is availability, there is no excuse not to get a completely unobstructed view.

Which has got me wondering if they have removed some or all of the rooms from Conch Key from the theme park view category.

But why remove all of the Conch Key rooms from the TPV category? The second room we had had a clear, unobstructed view of MK. That room should definitely be TPV. The first room we were assigned, with the huge tree blocking the view, should definitely not be TPV. It would make more sense to reclassify individual rooms, rather then an entire outer lodge.

I am not sure. It might be something as simple as the resort software not being able to classify individual rooms with a particular category or the number of rooms that have an acceptable view is simply not worth the trouble. Hopefully a resort CM will chime in with an accurate answer.
