DHS Grand Avenue and Baseline Tap House

I think the parking sign with all the restrictions is pretty funny. You have to solve a damn riddle to park anywhere in LA.

You think these restrictions are funny...

It doesn't hold a candle to NYC.

Look at the signs below and answer this question: On a Monday, when can you and can you not park and for how long? And how about on Sunday?

You'll eventually figure it out. Try to figure it out as you're slowly driving by looking for a place to park. :D

Yes because its Disney and I expect better, or use to, from them. I want to feel like I am in a Disney park, not the springs down the street, or some local place near home etc. Same could be said for some of their recent resort design changes (yacht club especially as an example), its all being voided of Disney and streamlined to be bland boring cold, and no different than a regular hotel chain. Two different topics really I know, but just meaning its getting less and less Disney from the parks to resorts,,,,from a design/theme perspective.

Well as I said High Octane was not themed and Starring Rolls wasnt heavily themed either as well as may other locations around the parks and resorts. I guess it really doesn't bother me when places like bars and lounges don't have fully developed back stories! As long as they are nice, clean and a place I can step away from the hustle and bustle I'm ok with it.

Well, on the one hand, just about every major restaurant in a 'wet' park has an associated 'lounge'. And so, the Sci-Fi Drive-In now has it's associated lounge.

OTOH, it's theme has nothing to do with SFDI.
Something needs to be done with Sci-Fi. Not only painting the exterior (which is badly needed), but the interior doesn't fit the current direction of the park as it's themed to a soundstage and the exposed soundstage walls are meant to be seen.

To be pedantic: Muppet Courtyard is is Grand Park, not Grand Avenue. I guess the storytelling is that Grand Avenue was once an old business district but now has been gentrified. Why, they even just made park in front of the factory that's been converted into a theater!
Grand Park is part of Grand Avenue in the same way that the Enchanted Forest and Castle Courtyard are part of Fantasyland.

I agree that not everything needs an over the top theme and backstory. However, if you read the Blog Mickey review that @MisterPenguin posted the place does have a backstory of a bar that replaced an old printing company. There are pictures of a lot of details that support the story inside the place. The theme isn't in your face like a Trader Sam's but it's also not accurate to say the place isn't themed and looks like a generic bar in a local mall like some here have stated.

The music and general atmosphere is weird. The music at Baseline would fit perfectly in the Springs. There's street noise (cars & trucks) being played all over the place. Grand Lofts has soft single instrument songs playing. The tailor shop has random dialog about suits & stuff. The background noise is really varied.

Great little area though. It's nice walking around here again.

I noticed some of those details to include the "original name" of the previous tenant. I think its a great story and certainly an added bonus to this new location though I just know there are a bunch of people here rolling their eyes and scoffing

I enjoy some of the more subtle theming with details that exist if you take the time to look around a little. It's what Disney historically had done best and still does.

Something based on a Disney ip that couldn’t be in any mall.

Can someone tell where this mall is where these bars exist?

The malls here in Colorado have your usual restaurants (Red Robin, Ruby Tuesdays, Yard House etc.) and then some have very grand restaurants (Steak Houses plus other local and national chains that are quite pricey) however none of them are just bars. The only place I have ever seen an actual Bar in a mall is in Las Vegas and even there they are not themed or look anywhere as nice as Baseline.

If they built this in Toy Story Land it would probably be filled with Toy Story characters and props, but in the section it's located it fits perfectly with the theme. I don't really see how having a bar based on Disney IP would make it more immersive.

Which brings up the question - Do we really want a Bar/Lounge Themed after an IP that children would be familiar with and then want to go in a see the establishment?

Children do not belong in Bars/Lounges (Period)

A valid point and I would never actually suggest they make a bar in Toy Story Land themed to Toy Story. However, if they built a bar that looked exactly like Baseline Tap House in Toy Story Land I would say it would be way out of place and not a good fit with the theme of the area. This bar fits perfectly in an area themed to a fictional section of downtown LA.
