Grad Night

Excuse my ignorace about this but what exactly is grad night?

I assume its someones graduation ceremony. I've had a quick look at the 2008 dates - 18, 19, 25, 26 April for anyone who is interested and three of those dates are during my honeymoon trip.

What kind of effect will this have? Will the parks close early? Will they be busy in the evening, on the day, through the week? Can resort guests stay through the cermony?

Sorry for all the questions!

Grad night is for that year's grads. The Magic Kingdom closes early - 7:00 and it's open all night for the FL high school grads. I believe each night is designated for certain high schools. Magic Kingdom is the only park affected.

Thats great thanks.

I got a little worried then but I guess that I will hardly be affected by it. I was suppries to see a 'blast off' party at DAK though, I would have thought that they needed to keep the noise levels down at night because of the animals.

That's something that is taken into consideration, which is why it is held in Dinoland, and is significantly quieter than the event at MK. The secondary Blast-Off party used to be held at the P.I. clubs, but it got a little too crazy and racy/raunchy because it is harder to keep track of the kids there.

My grad night was back in 1989 and at the time, I remember students coming from Georgia, Miss., and Alabama.
Just out of curiosity for those who are going or have gone recently, do they still make you dress up? Back when I went, all guys had to wear shirts and ties, dress pants and dress shoes. Girls were required to wear dresses or pant suits.
Do they also still have musical acts? My grad nite had Samantha Fox, New Kids on the Block, Information Society, Will to Power and i forget the country act that was there that night.

They still have a dress code, but it is not as formal.

The performers this year are Cartel, The Fray, Cassie, and Cheskob.

It's a little more strict for guys (need to have a collared shirt) but it has relaxed over the years (mostly due to the heat). Chaperones have a copy of the dress code in their handbook.

Grad Night is not a graduation ceremony, but a special party for only high school seniors.

The only park that will close early (I think around 6:00 PM or so) will be the Magic Kingdom.

It should interfere with your vacation much at all.

No, resort guests cannot stay. The park is only open to the high school senior attending this special event.

Hope that helps. :)
