I am new to this site and just saw the ad on this site for the GPS tracker for kids. What an awesome idea! I have already ordered it for my girls for our trip in November. They will be 2 1/2 and 8 1/2 and I am going to be so much more relieved knowing that if they get lost, I have a way to locate them quickly! At $4 a day it will give me such a great peace of mind!

Hi! I heard that you ordered a gps tracker for your kids, where did you order it? is is a daily rental while your stay in Disney? are you renting it from Disney Resort?
thanks

Jan 19, 2014 - child abduction, kidnapping, WDW
My sister in law at dinner told me her neighbor's friend had her daughter kidnapped while at WDW last month (about 4 weeks ago). The mom was with 2 kids at a store (where you exit a ride or show), and called 911 once she realized her daughter was no longer with her. A man came to her, said he was with WDW, asked the mom what happened. Apparently 911 calls are listened to by WDW. The mom described what the daughter wore, and the man said that what she wore doesn't matter as kidnappers often change the kids clothes. Within 18 minutes, the child was found in the parking lot. One kidnapper, a female by the way, was a woman who had taken a sharp instrument, put it to the back of the neck of the child victim, and said don't scream or I will kill you. The WDW security reviewed the videos to track the child and kidnappers quickly. The Mom did not hesitate to call 911 RIGHT AWAY once she noticed her daughter was no longer with her in the store. 18 minutes was all it took for the woman and male child abductors to move the child victim to the parking lot!!!!

Link? Sounds like a hoax to me.

I did witness a woman lose her child at Kings Island in Ohio once, about 14 years ago. It was at the end of the night after the fireworks and as everyone was milling around before they left the park this woman began screaming the child's name and crying. I asked what the child looked like and what they were wearing to see if I could spot the child, but it was so thick with people walking out that it was impossible to see anything. We hung around for quite a while because I hate leaving any amusement park at the end of the day and fighting those crowds. I kept an eye out for the child, but after a few minutes the police had shown up and started searching. I don't think that child was found, but I could be wrong. I hope I am wrong and that they turned up somewhere safe. Makes my skin crawl.

Mmmhmm. You know, a few years ago, we were with friends in WDW. Their daughter got sick and they ended up extending the trip. The mom and daughter had days on their passes and got in. The mother was standing with her daughter on the inside of the park. The son was on the other side while his dad was upgrading their tickets. She accidentally picked him up and put him on the other side. Within 30 seconds Disney security was right there.

A kidnapping, or a child being grabbed, just is NOT going to happen at WDW. Too much security, especially since 9-11. And if it did, it would be all over the news.

I'm not sure I'd go that far. It could still happen. It makes me really mad to see parents at Disney World allow their 4 and 5 year old children run around without a care in the world (no pun intended) about the children or where they are.

It's sorta weird to think about parents who think WDW is just like the playground at their local school, or a giant daycare. AKA Just leaving their child at Magic Kingdom while going to Pleasure Island Disney Springs.

I watched one child, maybe 6 years old, leave his mother in Once Upon a Toy, weave his way through the store while she was still on the other side of the store, and then walk outside to go play in the water fountain/play area next to the store. We finally made our purchases and walked out the door nearest the water area and the mother came out and got the boy out of the water and seemed upset that he was wet. ?!?!? That's it?!? She was only upset that he was wet? Not that he was not seen or heard from for at least a half hour?

When we visit with the kids, they always have lanyards with the zipper pouches on them. Each has an index card in their pouch with their first name, resort, mom and dads name and our cell phones. In the case of my son, it also lists his food allergy in big highlighted letters. We taught them from the beginning if they get lost or separated to find either a Cast Member (and explained how to tell they are a CM) or a Mommy and let them know they are lost and then give them their card. This actually came in handy once (not at Disney but while out shopping) and my daughter calmly found a mom pushing a stroller and explained that she was lost and gave the mom my cell phone number. A few minutes and a phone call later, I was reunited with my daughter.

So you saw a little boy wondering away from his mom and leaving the store and didn't say anything?

No. We're more responsible than that. The register was right there near the fountain where we could see him and we told the CM about it. But here's the crux of the problem. We all see this kind of thing all the time at Disney. To get right down and honest about it, these are not my children so I have no authority to tell these moronic parents how to raise their tax deductions. If I spent my time chasing down child after child at Disney trying to make sure that they did not get taken then I may as well stay home and do that at Wal-Mart or the mall. Have you ever walked up to a parent and told them that their "child" is nearly walking out of the store and nowhere in the general vicinity of that parent? I have, and have gotten an ear full from the indignant a**hat that cannot believe that I would tell her or him how to raise their child. They completely lose it until I take out my phone and start calling the Child Protective Services number I have stored.
