...from a certain point of view - and i'm not even, necessarily, saying you're wrong; however, don't have it in me today, maybe tmrw
:p

Even with some missteps...was wdw better when they were "overbuilt" for future capacity? Or when they began "consolidating their experience/assets?"

...one was mostly the reign of Michael E....the other until now is entirely the reign of Robert I

So basically now is the time to call, write and raise a storm....start contacting Disney and let them know you see where this is going (no more free FastPass, FastPass included only for guests of certain expensive hotels, etc.) and you won't stand for it. Let them know it's not right to give something free for years, get people used to it, then charge. Whatever reasons you can think of...lay it on them.

People talk and things will go up the chain. Basically, it's the only chance you'll have to make any type of influence so do it. Politely, but clearly let them know your disapproval.

I’m going to say “write” to voice your complaints.. don’t make the people who are actually planning thier vacation sit on hold longer while you’re all complaining ;)

You're talking about ultimate power...consumer rejection.

Will never happen at Disney parks. The problem is that the important people - the adults between 30 and 80 that book and pay - use disney like a chemical.

It gets them through the nights and days...they crave it...they go on The Dunceboards and do (not kidding) 5 year countdowns to it. It's like a opiate of the middle class masses (what's left of them, anyway). They can't say no...just like i couldn't to hasbro when I was a kid. It's just layered under the shield of a big bill.

Psychology is powerful...the mind controls all.

Wait...my opinion...I have no polling data to back it up. ;)

Club level rooms always seem to be available., maybe this was to help get people to choose club level over another room type.

Ever seen the price? $225 more a night takes a lot of hors d oeuvres consumed to get the value back...it's not like they have anyway of booking character breakfasts you don't...

But your point is valid...most gimmicks in resorts are driven by inventory status.

Just stayed at the GF over marathon weekend and, jokingly, asked if they could upgrade us to a concierge room when I was asked if I had a preference on room location while checking in. The cast member got a chuckle out it because she was asking if we wanted near the pool, etc and then said, "club level has been fully booked steadily for several months now" and "we rarely have any availability". Could have been all BS, but sparked my memory when I read your comment. If it is true, they are striking while the iron is hot.

They don't typically have much available around the holiday season...sept - feb also was some of their big money convention times...

Take Poly for example.. standard view club level is cheaper than a theme park view non- club level room.
Lagoon view club is about the same as non-club tpv.

It always appears that the tpv and lagoon sell out before club level does, at least whenever I’ve checked.

For about the same money, but with the option to purchase 3 additional FP, it could potentially make someone choose club level over a view... and the theme park view rooms will still not have any problem selling out. It may cause me to consider it, depending on how far in advance I made the reservation.

Maybe.. when I’ve checked GF there usually is at least one CL category available.. but I’m sure that varies.

I think Walt always said “let rich people have more access to the rides than the poor guests not willing to pay.”

Oh wait, the parks were for every family. He had Club 33 got the rich investors, away from the show.

Walt disney preached that everyone have "access"...he never ever believed in pricing it so everyone could afford it. He Liked money just as much if not more than the next guy...

As long as the next guy wants bob iger

I haven’t done the math, but I’d bet a hot dog that Walt specifically priced the park to make it affordable to a larger cross-section of American incomes than Eisner or Iger. ISTR some Walt quotes specifically about affordability.

Oh...I'm not saying he was MORE greedy than those guys...but he always got his when possible according to biographers.

I would say economics and goals have changed. Whereas walt may have priced it to get maximum people at that price...now CMB says "slap luxury on it...if less come we can cut employee hours"

Different for sure.

That’s where someone gets the novel idea to cater to the not-so-wealthy, because there is demand for quality theme park experiences that won’t cost an obscene amount. Yes, welcome to capitalism.

Disney had that idea...they've completely and actively moved away from that since the current management took over.

They consistently increased prices during the housing bubble/crash recession...but everyone was drunk off the free dining and promos...

But all promos end...so then what's left in the bag after?
