Got the hotel for cheaper by going a day sooner!

We were originally planning on going to WDW on Friday 8/29-Sunday 9/1. However I was playing around with dates on the website & saw that it came out to almost $20 cheaper per night if we checked in on Thursday instead of Friday. So I called up & spoke to a CM & also found out that if I chose a standard room, instead of a preferred room it would be even less expensive. So now we are staying for 3 nights, instead of 2 & it isn't really costing us much more. How awesome is that?! I'm so happy I made the changes! And I am so thankful for that helpful CM, she was awesome!

For future reference, room rates on Sundays through Thursdays are always cheaper than rates on Fridays and Saturdays, for all resort levels. If your stay includes a Friday or a Saturday night, you will pay the weekend up charge on those nights. It is not always obvious when you only look at the total cost of your stay, but each night is broken down by cost per night. And of course standard view is the cheapest category.

I thought the weekday rates only applied to the weekdays, and not weekends. For our trip last year, we had different rates on different nights, since our stay spanned a weekend.

Our 3 night stay only came out to a little bit more verses 2 days.

I tried to move mine, and it was 100 more to go Sunday to Saturday versus Saturday to Friday :/

Since you changed your trip dates, it's possible that you qualified for a discount you didn't have before. That and the switch from preferred to standard could also be a factor. Glad it worked out for you!

The second Saturday may be in a different "season" and thus more expensive (going Sunday to Saturday like you said.) Disney has broken down their rates into so many different variables, only two weeks may constitute a certain rate. The only way to know for sure is to look at the per night cost rather than the total. And of course tax is never included in the per night rate listed, so you have to do your own math.

Allears.net is a good place to check for rates for specific dates, as they are listed by resort. Takes the guesswork out of what Disney is charging at what time.

Congrats! An extra night for about the same costs is a real coup!

Similar situation happened to us last Nov. We were booked at PORS for a week over Thanksgiving with the dining plan. Free dining offer came out. We had to switch resorts to CSR and add 2 nights onto the trip to get the free dining, but the total cost was $200 less than our original bill. We loved CSR and were able to go to Sea World which we hadn't originally planned in doing!
