My wife talked to the girl at the entrance to the line and she said someone had to wait outside the line with my son and that she would get a fastpass from the CM when it was her turn to go in. We all had fastpasses the problem was having to wait in the line twice, we asked if we could all go in together and swap at the ride itself and the girl said no.

My wife then complained to the girl after my daughter and I got off the ride about an hour later and the girls comment was, "that's how we do it if you want to go to customer service".

I'm confused. You said you had issues with child swap and yet you had fastpasses for Test Track. Could you all not have gone through together and then explained to the CM at the top that you were wanting to do child swap (I believe you need a child swap card). The CM at the fastpass entrance should have been able to explain how Child Swap works with the fastpasses.

Disney will not let any child under the required height enter the queue, with the exception of Star Tours. They have to wait outside.

Heading for the great escape.
Perhaps Im going more mental than normal, but when the Sakettes were at the hand over stage I remember going in through the out door, no Zep involved.

it should also be pointed out that Disney handles a great deal more of Child-swap situations than Universal. Lounges would become overcrowded very quickly, especially on an even moderately busy day and allowing everyone in the queue just invites problems on hight restricted rides. People are always trying to cheat the system so that the child can ride, and this is FAR worse at Disney than Universal due to the sheer demographics that Disney attracts as opposed to Universal. Disney is more for families, so we have to be extra vigilant on restrictions, I cannot even count how many times I've stopped parents from sneeking their kids in the line. While the problem exists as Universal, it isn't nearly at the same level, and the lounges work fine, but different parks have different needs, even if one seems to work better for the guest, you have to figure what works best for the operation.

Never knew this was the way child swap was done. I am planning a trip to DL in June/July with my son who will be 9 mo. Does DL use this same method for child swap?

We had a great time, we were in Orlando for 15 days and did both Universals in one day, MK twice and AK, Hoolywood studios and Epcot each one day. First time seeing Illuminations and we were so happy we finally stuck around for it. The only complaint we have is with the child swap, we had fast passes for Test Track for the time between 7pm and 8pm, we showed up right at 7pm and my daughter and I went in while my wife and son had to stay outside and wait. My daughter and I took 50 minutes to get through the fast pass line and off the ride then in order for my wife to go on she would've had to spend the same amount of time in line with my daughter again. They need to adopt the way Universal does it, the whole party stands in line and the swap is made at the ride itself so no waiting in line twice. This also happened at Space Mountain and a couple other rides.

All in all we had a great time and can't wait to go back for a few days after Daytona Speedweeks concludes.

Hmm, that's weird. I used to work at Test Track when I first started working at WDW years ago. I've since moved on from the company, but unless things have changed (this was about 7-8 years ago), when I was there we would have one adult wait with the child in the little holding area at the bottom of the TT exit ramp (they would also receive a green child swap card), while the other adults and older kids waited in the normal lines. Then when they finished the ride they would wait with the younger child while the previously waiting adult would just go back up the "exit" ramp with their green child swap card and wait by the stop sign until a TT cast member placed them in the the next available car. Usually less than a 5 minute wait. Plus the child swap card was valid for 3 people. So the waiting adult could bring 2 people on the ride with them, even if they were in the previous group of riders.

It was a GREAT system, and it worked REALLY well for us back then. If what you explained is a new standard, I think it sounds ridiculous.
