Hi,

Just had Lunch at Tusker house at noon yesterday and by 7pm had developed the most violent food poisoning I've ever had. 6 hours huddled in the bathroon next to the porcelein throne. Is it worth reporting to Disney? Do they investigate? Not looking for a hand out but thought they should track that kind of thing. Is there a number to call?

thanks,

Kevin :hurl:

Sorry about your luck. I've had similar in 2010. I never reported it, but wished I had of. Only takes a minute of your time, and may allow them to narrow down the cause.

Here's some #'s I have.

Nothing Worse while on hols.

Oops, know how you must have felt but did anybody else feel unwell ?I suppose you can get food posioning any restaurant, but unless other people were comming down with it,not sure what i would do.I once had sea urchin eggs at a greek taverna in Crete, was told it was like caviar, that night, alien was trying to get out my stomach.

You can certainly report it to them but I'd say unless there were multiple reported instances of it at that restaurant on that day than they won't really investigate it because it's more of a freak accident. It could be hundreds of things that have gotten on your food or you were just the unlucky one in getting a bad piece of something. That being said, I would report it incase you were not the only one so you can help Disney investigate the matter. I wouldn't call Disney Dining, it is unlikely that they'll be able to help you. Try guest relations, that'll be a better bet.

I ate lunch at Pizza Planet in DHS a few years back and became ill almost immediately. I managed to make it back to the AKL and actually had EMS visit the room. I told them I thought I had food poisoning and they tried to brush that off (I think they were concerned that I was going to file suit--lol). In my case, I don't think it did any good. BTW, I refuse to eat at Pizza Planet ever again.

If you believe it could have been food poisoning then it is best for Disney to know. I spent a summer working EMS at Six Flags when I was on a summer break from college, and we always took those concerns seriously (and reported them to the Director of Food and Beverage). While it is hard to say whether or not you had food poisoning without blood work (an unfortunately timed stomach virus could have been to blame), it is still probably better that they know the circumstances of the situation. However, unless other people reported the same consequences after their meal then the odds are that they will believe you just fell ill.

It is likely they brushed if off because it may have not been food poisoning, especially if you became ill immediately. Food borne illnesses usually begin to show symptoms two to six hours after the food was consumed. Not sure what the exact time frame was in your case but that may have been a contributing factor to the EMS response. Not that it was right of them to do so, just maybe why.

I'd report it so that they can take care of the problem. It's good to report so that Tusker House can catch something if it was something they did on their end (as opposed to packaging issues, etc...)

Plus it sounds like it did impede on the 'magic' of your trip. Perhaps they could refund your meal as you didn't really...stay with you.

But more for the informative purposes to Tusker House could take care of the problem if possible

I think it's always best to report it. If multiple people report it, they may be able to pull something off the shelves that is a bad batch, and prevent others from getting sick. I had food poisoning a few years ago from a local restaurant, and it felt like the sickest I have ever been. It's awful - I'm sorry you had to experience that on vacation.

Report it so they can check. We get reports occasionally here, but none have proven to be so. But nonetheless the restaurant should check and Disney will. If there are several reports from the same time frame with same foods then it may be. But if you are the only one then it won't be. But either way they need reports to find out.

People tend to immediately connect illness with eating, it does seem logical. But in a tourist setting there are lots of places where illnesses can be picked up, even a day or two before and the person becomes ill and think it has to do with food they ate that day. Not saying you are incorrect but just saying that's one of the reasons reports are needed to see if there is a pattern or not. So, report this.

I'd report it if I were you. Presuming it was food poisoning, they will want to know so they can figure out what happened. But perhaps more importantly for you, I had an experience at Disney that was similar and only because I reported it did I find out what was actually wrong. When I reported what I thought was food poisoning, I found out that they actually had a few cases that week of a norovirus. The knowledge that I had a norovirus helped me to recover fairly quckly, and also allowed me to prepare for the virtually inevitable -- my wife's symptoms started about 30 hours after mine.

Compensation is a secondary concern all the way around.

It can take longer if you have a slower absorption rate - my husband and I had food poisoning once - his severe symptoms started a couple of hours before mine. I woke up to tend to him, but didn't bother going back to bed because I knew I was next (started to feel "off" while he was sick as a dog) But he has always had a faster GI system.

I would report it. I don't know how Disney handles it, but I got a horribly nasty case of food poisoning in Vegas one year and when the hotel was informed, I had a special case mgr come out and interview me. Part of it was to help isolate the restaurants where I could have eaten the bad food - the other part was to protect themselves since they wanted me to sign waivers to hold them harmless. At the very least, you'll find out how WDW handles these things.

On a side note- I find it interesting that it sounds like Tusker House was the culprit. Everyone thinks I'm nuts when I tell this story- but we had an 8:10a breakfast there last December and I swear- the food was so nasty and dried out you would have thought we were an 11 am seating getting food that was sitting around for hours on end. Hope everyone is feeling better.

Ok, I called and emailed guest relations. The person on the phone guest relations tried to convince me that I could not possibley have gotten food poisoning in under 24 hours. BS, actually two of them, one in Microbilogy and one in Medical Technology says otherwise. I've not had food poisoning much before but that 8 hours was something I'd rather never repeat. Still a bit tender today but should be back to snuff tomorrow. Hope some good comes of it.

The least they could do is give you another taste of their culinary delight and hopefully not repeat the mishap.

DizneyPryncess... Based on your avatar you new little Pryncess resembles Simba quite a bit. Seriously though... Congrats.
