I have a friend who has one, and he refuses to be trained where to "go." No matter how hard she tries to make him do it in his box, he still goes in the corner of his cage. Don't know if this is indicative of problems with the whole species or not. (Hell, maybe it's a male thing; from what I've heard, my folks had much the same trouble with me for a while.) :p

He's cute, but he bit me on the neck once while I was letting him crawl around on me, so now he stays at arm's length whenever I'm over there.

the three reasons my mom won't let one in the house...

1. She heard they have an odor
2. She heard they bite
3. She heard they NEVER 'go' in the litterbox
4. She thinks they look like furry snakes
5. She thinks they look like rats
6. She says I am the only pet in the house...
whoops- more than three reasons... I REALLY WANT ONE... and a chimpanzee!

Have never detected a "odor" at my friends house, It bites, had a cage with sawdust (like gerbils, etc) not a litter box.
They look like big rats!!! I'm sure you are a cute pet...and NO monkeys!!!!!!!!:lookaroun

Am watching TV (America's Funniest Videos) and what should appear? Ferrets! The guy got bit on a very sensitive spot. You might want to rethink this.

Not all Ferrets bite, it`s only in the way you raise them. My friend Geoffe has two ferrets and neither of them have ever bitten me! :D

A good friend of mine had a ferret for the longest time!... And whenever he got it.. i wanted one!... From what I know, it used the litter box and didn't smell any worse than, say, a dog. The only thing it did was get lost ALL THE TIME!... We used to have to go and search the neighborhood for the thing to find it was nestled in some corner under a dresser or something.

A girl I used to work with had ferrets. They were so cute and also affectionate! She would bring one to work from time to time and he would give kisses  to you!

He did have a slightly musky smell to him when you were up close to him, but it wasnt like, say, wet dog or anything that obvious. And this one was litter trained. He spent quite a bit of time in one of my desk drawers (it was open...I was watching him for her while she went out to lunch, and he just curled up in there and slept :snore: ) and he left no souveniers ;)

She did tell me that you should purchase your ferret from a reputable shop, because apparently here in NY, you need a license or certification or something to sell them, and the ones sold legally (?) are descented and spay/neutered. Not sure why though.

Darrel, I agree on the Sugar Gliders :)
