Ok guys, what'll it be?

I'm thinking The Sword and the Stone... Let's do a ride where you experience the lessons of Merlin by having the guest transformed into a Bird, a Squirrel, and a fish. I think this would work very well for an indoor ride that appeals to everyone. I'm thinking something similar to the technology used by The Simpsons Ride over at Universal.

Anywho, that's my thought for now...

I'd like to see a dark ride for Mary Poppins, there's so many songs we could use and I've always felt the film deserved the ride.

Or how about Lady and the Tramp.

Actually, on second thoughts, I'd love a 101 Dalmations ride. That could be great with Cruella De Vil as the villain.

Maybe we should start with a different approach...

What TYPE of ride do we want to create. Are we looking for a ride similar to those already in Fantasyland, or are we looking for something with more thrills? Perhaps something in the middle, let's start with the type and then find a property that lends itself to that type.

Reminder, i need to know who your team leader is, and as Trevor said please pm me your subject matter.

NOTE: remember a dark ride necessarily isnt on a track (think PotC, HM, or even Pooh's Hunny Hunt), just clarifying things up that seem evident in BOTH teams. DO for a track if you'd like, but im just saying dont just think of DRs as tracks :)

We (TrevorA and I forgot to tell you this), this Round (the 2nd round) takes place 5 years AFTER the Fantasyland Expansion is complete, so around 2018... Just a frame of focus! :)

PS Chip n Dale's Imagineering Rangers have chosen Robin Hood.

Ok, I do think that Pixie Hollow is the area that should get replaced, even though it will come online in phase two, and then we're just getting rid of something that opened 5 years prior, but whatevs.... Sword in the Stone? Robin Hood is taken, so we don't have many options...

Also, whilst I love the idea of a Mary Poppins ride, I don't know that it fits this section of Fantasy Land.

Ok, I'm dying here... We NEED a movie... Bambi might work, but that movie is traumatic enough for so many kids (and adults)...

Does anyone else have any thoughts, if not I'm gonna start working on a Sword in the Stone ride based on my original idea...

Right- we need an idea. Fractal, seeing as you have an idea for Sword in the Stone why don't you become team leader and show the rest of us what it's like. Can we incorporate any new tech as it is meant to be set in 2018? I think we should definitely replace Pixie Hollow.

When's the due date for this project?

Ok... Setting it inside Pixie Hollow is perfect, we could reuse a lot of the forest theming and perhaps add a show building behind/on top if we have to.

My vision for the ride is that it is is Merlin teaching you the same lessons he taught in the movie Sword in the Stone... You start out as a fish, and after flopping around you finally dive into the water... you swim around, get chased by a bigger fish, maybe get caught on a hook, and finally break away and rush towards the surface, you burst forth and transform into a squirrel, you grasp onto a branch and then begin running through the forest canopy. We could choose to incorporate the lovesick lady squirrel aspect, but I'm not so sure it is needed. Eventually we get chased by another predator and start climbing higher and higher, running faster and faster towards the top of the canopy until we finally jump off and start falling, only to be transformed into birds and take flight over the forest. It might be cool to have the witch from the movie in the ride chasing us, transforming herself into various predators along the way until she finally gets taken out by Merlin in the end.... heck the finally could even be us seeing Merlin disappear and her closing in, only to have her start sneezing...

I think there are several ride tech's that could work with this design... I think what would be nice would be if we could make it a dark ride in the sense that it tells a story and kids would enjoy it, but also make it immersive and have a thrill or two so that adults would be drawn into this section of the park that currently doesn't have much for adults without kids.

I think it would be great to use ride mechanics similar to the simpsons over at Universal. I really loved that ride and felt immersed, for me this would be a great way to give the feel and immersion needed to explore the world as a fish a squirrel and a bird.

The addition of wind, water, smell, 3-D and other aspects could really make this a great showcase.

What we need are... A design for the ride building outside and the queue and ride vehicle, a storyboarding of the three lessons, and perhaps a more solid lock on the use of the witch and details like that. I am open to any suggestions, but I have pmed the judges and said this is our ride and I am the team captain. I will begin working on the story in more detail tonight after my rehearsal and will definitely have time on Saturday to compile everything, so let me know what you would like to work on here folks.

This is part one of what I'm hoping to extrapolate into a five act ride. Act 1 is this intro, Act 2 is running through the canopy and eventually falling into a lake. Act 3 Arthur is a fish and we explore the lake until we get caught in a net by Madam Mim. in Act 4. We take to the Air with Arthur as a sparrow and Merlin/Mim having a duel in the air around us, at some point we get separated and fall towards the lake only to be saved by Arthur. Act 5 is us returning to the class room and being de-shrunk by Merlin, who says enough lessons for one day, class dismissed.

Anyway, here's part one.

We enter a room with a ride vehicle inside. Wart, an animation on the front screen, tells us we’d better sit down, as Merlin likes to start class on time. Also, sometimes the lessons get a bit hairy, so we’d better take some precaution and strap on our safety harnesses, one time Merlin was teaching his class and Sir Ector went flying over the castle, ever since then we’ve been sure to strap everyone in.

“Merlin, Merlin? I’m all ready for today’s lesson, my chores are done and everything.”

“Well then lad, we’d better begin.” Merlin speaks as a poof of smoke and a flash give way to reveal has just appeared before us on screen. “Well who are all these people lad? You know it’s dangerous to bring friends along on your lesson.”

“I know Merlin, but they wanted to see some real magic, and I kinda promised them they could tag along. Please?”

“Oh all right, but I can’t transform them all into various creatures, we’ll have to think of something else. AHA! I have it, let’s shrink them down!”

“Shrink them down? Are you sure?”

“Absolutely my lad, we’ll just shrink them down and then I’ll cast a spell to connect them to you, that way you won’t get separated. But, before I do, you’d better put on your special spectacles. They will allow your eyes to adjust and see the magic properly. Prepare yourselves; this won’t hurt a bit… WINKITEE DINKITEE SHRINKITEE!”

From this point forward everything switches to 3-D
The room seems to grow around us, Merlin and Arthur now tower over us and an ant walks by in front of us to give us a proper sense of perspective.

“Well hello down there! I’d better transform you lad, so you can join them, Whilrilus Squirellus”

Arthur is transformed into a squirrel and craws towards the ride vehicle.

“Oh boy, you’re going to love this, we’ll be able to dart around the tress and climb everywhere! Just let me know if you spy any girl squirrel’s, I’d like to avoid having to learn THAT lesson again.”

“And presto chango rearango, POOF!” Merlin is now a squirrel as well, and we begin to take off towards a window in the room, begin dragged along by Arthur, who we are tethered to by a stream of magic.

That's fine, any help would be appreciated :) BTW, I was thinking of using Archimedes as part of the queue.
