Good things that *haven't* changed much since opening?

All three innocent? Innocent, until eventually the once arid, empty Southwestern Area is now a walk from Toon Pecos Bill to Toon Rabbit inhabited by toon toys Woody and Jessie. A toontown rather than frontierland.
Considering that Westerns aren't really the presence in popular culture that they were when Disneyland was built, I can see why they would bring in more of the characters, however it doesn't sound like they've done that with Woody. If they had some kind of place that was set up like the set of Woody's Roundup where you could do a M&G with Woody or Jessie, it would be passable, but not just having a random character with no attempt made to integrate him in a sensible manner. I have no problem with Pecos Bill. Splash Mountain probably should have gone in Fantasyland, but at the time it was constructed, they still had the lagoon, so that may have been a factor. I sure miss the 20,000 Leagues ride, diesel fumes be darned.

I do wish that Disney would get back into creating original experiences that might eventually end up being exploited for other things, rather than just making attractions based on IP, but, again, with the size of the company now, they're only going to spend money on what they see as a sure thing. Also, it's much easier to make changes to a ride that is almost entirely screen-based than one with practical sets and AA figures. I'll never be convinced that anything screen-based will have the same fan devotion and longevity that the classic attractions have. We're stuck to screens all day, but there are very few places to experience physical immersion in a fantasy world. Projections are fantastic for effects and "plussing," but not as the total basis of an attraction. That's why I'm not enthusiastic about the upcoming Ratatoullie, Mickey, or Star Wars rides. The Great Movie Ride may have needed updating (badly), but I guarantee it will be better than whatever they put in there.

I know. I'm an old man shouting at clouds again.

The Mickey Ice Cream Bar is still a stick holding a blob of chocolate-shell-covered ice cream in the shape of a Mickey head. Losing the face is, to my mind, a minor change... hence, meeting the "Good things that *haven't* changed much" criteria.

Um, no they have really changed. They were chocolate and vanilla ice cream flavors with only a tiny bit of ears covered. I loved the older ones. I don't like the new at all really.

I prefer the Mickey Ice Cream sandwiches over the ear bars. Every now and then I'll get a mickey ear bar, maybe every few years, and I go one to two times per month.

I find that the bulk of the Disney Treats on offer do not match up visually with their taste. They look amazing, but don't taste amazing. I don't really know how to explain it really. Oh, and never again will I purchase the pre-packaged cookies. Barf!!! Best way to put it is dry and tasteless. I gave up and I wasn't even half way done with the first cookie.

I agree on the Mickey Ice Cream Sandwiches. I think they are much better and worth getting. I haven't even bothered with a Mickey bar for myself in a while. Last time I had some was when a kid I was with didn't care for it so I had a bite while helping to remove the chocolate.

Generally speaking I agree on the pre packaged snacks. They just aren't good. There are a few snacks we do like but a lot are rather bland or overly sweet

Every time we went when I was growing up, my father would go on and on about Carousel of Progress and how much he loved it. The first couple of times I saw it, aside from the fact there were robots, I didn't get the hype. That third time, though... I don't know. It just connected with me and I was able to understand my father's excitement. The last two times I went, in 1997 and 2006, my Dad made sure to ask me when I returned if I had visited the Carousel of Progress. Of course I had. Each time, he would say, "That's my favorite." My father passed away in 2010. When I finally get to go back to WDW in November, the first thing I'm going to hit is the Carousel of Progress and bring a photo of my Dad I can hold while I watch it. As cheesy as a lot of modern audiences find the attraction, it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Country Bear Jamboree does that for me. My grandparents were in their 60s but went to Disney in 1973. My dad who was in his 20s tagged along and brought a buddy of his. It was a Florida trip, but they did take in a day at Magic Kingdom. They did like the Country Bear Jamboree quite a bit. I never knew my grandpa, as he died when I was 2, but he liked this show, my dad always has liked this show and I do too. My kids, who just went last year for the first time do as well. It is iconic, and very sentimental for me.
