Good Story On Costs

Yes, all these things we Disney fanatics are complaining about are just us nit picking. And the business practices are working out so great that park earnings are down, and can't ya just wait to see what they will be next year after Uni opens their new gate. The earnings and stock price aren't opinion.
Mmm hmmm…the proof is literally showing itself…

And you still get snit from these armchair park eggheads. Like the great Oz

If we had a large family, we couldn't visit as regularly as we do, but for my wife and i, its our thing, some people just don't get it, but to me its safe, cast members are fantastic, Disney community is fab, and as much as we all have opinions on how badly its run, or there not doing enough here or there, the fact is its the one holiday ( yes we are from UK )that we look forward to more than any other, but it must be so tough if you have a large family for sure, maybe take a leaf from Jurassic park and have a coupon day or something . People say try other vacations, friends of ours priced up turkey for 10 nights all inclusive, for 5, 3 kids and 2 adults, came to 8K, thats approx. $11,000. things like holidays are not cheap anywhere anymore, at least when you pay for WDW, your tickets included, and from the UK, we get the chance of dining plan for a pretty good cost, so say next year when we arrive, for 2 of us its approx. £5000 staying at ASR 10 nights, thats inc flights, hotel, dining &spending money, i don't think thats to bad for us, but for others that may be out of reach , we don't have expensive TV packages, smoke ,or drink regularly, only eat out once a month so we put all our money towards visiting you guys ;).and its well worth it.

It doesn't depend how you look at it. Don't spend money you don't have. Kids don't need a trip to Disney to have a complete childhood and parents don't need to give it to him to not fail as parents. The failure would be putting your family at risk to go somewhere you can't afford.

"You can always pay off debt" is exactly why people in America have massive debt and those decisions predictably ruin lives and families.
No. People who take on too much debt too quickly, without a means to pay them back can result in the ruin of lives and families. Or massive unforeseen events like natural disasters or extreme medical emergencies which require you going into debt that you can't pay back can lead to ruin.

But the idea of not spending money you don't have as an axiomatic statement ("It doesn't depend how you look at it") is just is silly and doesn't practically work a modern economy.

If you want to pursue higher education as a means of bettering your knowledge, or pursuing higher paying employment, while some people may get scholarships and complete financial aid, most don't. You are going to need to go into debt, spend money you don't have, for ROI that hopefully your degree will provide.

Want a car to drive to work once you get a job, or to increase the geographical area that you can explore employment opportunities, sure you could wait and save up enough money to pay cash and full price for a vehicle, but that's not really realistic or practical in the current automotive market.

Same applies for a home. Want to own a home, both a place to live and raise a family, and as a way to build some equity in a property... same argument as above for a car, only multiplied by 10.

Maybe you didn't go college and instead went into a trade and now want to start your own business, or you did go to college and now want to go out on your own. Do you think most people starting a new business have the cash to set up office, infrastructure, materials, employees, insurance, working capital, ect.

Is this to say that any of the above mentioned things are analogous to a WDW vacation...of course not. But they all go to the general idea that it is almost impossible to live strictly by paying cash/full present price for everything and not going into debt. Now just like there is a difference between the person who may take out a car loan to get a Toyota Civic, vs someone who goes out and gets a loan for a 7series, you need to be realistic on how much your willing to spend/go into debt for a vacation, and how your going to pay it back. But the ruin doesn't come from paying for something with credit, it comes from making bad decisions with your credit spending.

The irony is we went to Paris and Amsterdam two summers ago and fit Disneyland Paris in. Cost wise not terrible, though we only stayed 2 nights at DLP.

Amusement parks in the Sun. That’s absolutely not at “over the top” vacation. And that’s the issue.

Detachment from what it actually is…which is just a longer/more expensive version of a standard middle of the road vacation

You want to know everything is out of whack? Bad management floated some kind of alternative reality where this isn’t the case…and just enough koolaid drinkers bit to make them think they were right…
…and they never were

That’s why it’s slow burn that is bringing the house down over time…death by 1000 cuts

Don’t believe me…just watch it play
Part of me finds it oddly satisfying. ...not the Disney loving part obviously.

That's for sure...I've traveled a lot and Disney is now my cheap vacation. Traveling is expensive.

If you're in the UK, why choose WDW over DLP? Also, why not other parks like Efteling or Europa Park with their own lodging/resorts?

For me, EPCOT and Animal Kingdom. Weather. Other theme parks in the area. Ease of getting there. More to do. And the resorts are just not the same, it's not sensible to say one is a substitute for the other.

I have found that with all the Disney resorts I have visited., each has its strengths and weaknesses. The Disneyland part of the complex is wonderful, detailed and unique, but the Studios part is one of the ugliest gates in all of the Disney universe. Paris is an amazing city, and can't see how anyone could bash it(not you but another poster).

Why! Well we’ve visited DLP, it’s great but no WDW, and I’m not talking M.K v DLP, I’m talking everything else , Epcot ,HS,AK, resorts , food , golf , shopping, weather ! I’m not interested in European parks, and let’s not go there on the difference between U.S cast members , and DLP cast members , yes some Parisians are great, but I’ll give you an example, we were eating at a pizza deli place just outside the park , a lady forgot to take her tray and empty it in the bin, the employer at the Deli shouted at her before she could leave , and I mean shouted , my wife and I couldn’t believe it, I’m British, and for me the worst place you could build a Disney park in Europe is France, another time I asked at sequoia lodge for a shower cap for my wife, the guy at the desk couldn’t be bothered to help, he was rude, o and have you visited Charles de Gaulle airport 🥴, the so called magical express they run isn’t magical at all, at Mco it’s a well oiled machine, not in France it’s not ! When we asked the driver is our coach arriving soon, I kid you not, he shouted NO, in that rude Parisian way , 😂you couldn’t make it up . But Indiana jones attraction is ace, as is BTM is way better , but that’s about it, have you had a Casey’s in DLP, they serve the hotdog in a baguette , and not a very nice one at that, France in EPCOT is more appealing . And you know why? It’s because the French cast members are in the USA 😂

Does DLP have a bad reputation in general in the UK? I definitely see the points you're making, but I'm surprised how many people travel to Orlando as opposed to just going to Paris, which I assume must be cheaper and easier?

The weather was always a big draw to Orlando…especially for the UK.

They always got better deals…and when you go on vacation for 3 weeks…that’s not “nothing” either
