Good Camera's

One of the best things to probably do is go to a store and mess around with the dslr's there. See how you like the controls, and most importantly, how the camera feels in your hands. Most entry level dslr's are quite good, so I wouldn't say one brand/model totally trumps the others. And since you're new to that market, you might not know enough on the small particulars, other than if you want video or not, or an articulate screen (that's how I was anyway). It can be a daunting process if you try to think too too hard about it. So so just play with some in-store models and have fun with it. Don't get too caught up in any super technical arguments you may come across either. Some people or other boards will argue about stuff that most people (especially beginners) won't even notice.

Best buy would be a perfect place to visit. I believe they only have Canon and Nikon though; so you won't get to test other inexpensive brands there. But maybe look to see if you have a Ritz Camera or other local shop near you. I've heard a few times that some strictly Photography stores might push certain brands more than others though. But if anything, they could possibly know a little more than say a Best Buy employee... sometimes.

The one and only reason to use Best Buy... 18 months 0% APR. Other than that they are useless and really do NOT know what they are talking about. Ritz, at least retail store wise, is a giant rip off. They will not match online competitors such as Adorama and B&H.

A friend recommended B&H, so I'll plan to buy from there. I just want to go to Best Buy to play with the camera's and get a feel for them.
