Even if I had that kind of money to spend on a house (which I seriously do not, lol), I wouldn't want to live on the Disney property. I might buy me for friends and family to stay in when they came to town, but NO WAY would I live there.

I think that news article is wrong...They are putting them on quarter-acre lots, not half-acre, according to the website.

I don't even know how you put a 4,500 sf house on a quarter-acre lot.

You'll laugh but WDW addicts probably wouldn't find living in Golden Oak much of fun. The location is great, not far from Fort Wilderness, but the neighborhood is not. The houses haven't exactly been jumping off the market and most buyers are the uber rich who simply use them to vacation a couple of weeks a year. They have a strict rule so renting to vacationers is not allowed. As a result, the neighborhood feels pretty dead, nowhere near as exciting as staying at a WDW resort.

The annual association fee alone is about $36K!

You do get a 3-year VIP pass to WDW for buying a house but, somehow, I think if you can afford a $36K association fee, you can afford an AP.

1 quarter acre = 10,890 sq foot

Seems to be plenty of room.

If my Powerball numbers come in tonight I'll have to consider it. I'm sure the neighborhood would welcome "riff-raff with money." I'm sure it's a very isolated and quiet neighborhood. Perhaps buying one of the more expensive houses in Celebration would be better.

Luxury homes in Celebration start at 350K...
Luxury homes in Hunters Creek start at 550K...
So basically, your talking about 5 times the local going rate for the lowest priced homes...
What "luxury homes" are you seeing in Celebration for $350K? You also have to tack on a premium for this being new construction, not existing homes. The closest comparable would be the Toll Brothers development in Windermere. $800,000 for just over 4,000 square feet. That doesn't put Golden Oak TOO far out of the ballpark, considering you're up in the stratosphere already.

Your information is incorrect. Fees and assessments are roughly $10,000. The PDF below is an official Disney publication.

If I had that kind of money I would buy at Isleworth instead. It is in Windermere and close to UOR, WDW, Restaurant Row, and the Mall at Millenia. It is where Tiger Woods lived before all his issues.

Now this Golden Oaks really doesn't make sense to me...You can get something in Isleworth, same size, on an acre of land for the same price. Interesting.
