Gold Pass vs Platinum Pass Question

I just have a couple quick questions! My husband and I have been AP holders since 2012 and last year's changes took effect right after we renewed so this year we have to think about the different levels. My first question is, if we currently have a Platinum pass can we renew and get a Gold pass or do we have to buy a Gold pass at the new price? Second question is, there's a price difference of $83 per person if I get the Platinum vs. Gold. Do you think it's worth $160 not to have December/March blackout dates?

I'm not sure about the first question, but a DVC CM recommended the Gold to me if I decide to renew.

When you renew you can upgrade. The gold pass has more blocked out dates, if you don't go during the summer or major holidays a lot I'd prob do the gold. I have the plat plus but I go a lot so it's worth it to me.

GOLD does not block out summer!

We are upgrading from seasonal to Gold for this reason.

The current Gold block out dates:

March 19th thru April 1st (2016)
December 19th thru January 2nd (2016-17)
