i am considering a trip for next year possibly early march or april. in the past i have stayed at the value resorts at pop and ASMovies and loved it. on my last trips we were going going going we wanted to see as much as possible on each trip. this trip will be more relaxing and i though we would stay at a moderate resort for the first time. so here are my questions what are the big differences between the two?
what is the best moderate for kids?
do they have counter service dinning as well as table service?
is the store better ( my kids love the souvenirs)
also i have rheumatoid arthritis so walking some times is hard can i request a building close to the main hall and busses ?
how does this work at a moderate is it the same as at value?
thanks for all the help

POFQ is a great mod. They have a good food court and a boat ride or short walk over is POR where there is a sit down resturant, Boatwrights, that is very good and a huge store. POFQ store is not that big but has some good choices. It is also a small and quiet resort and almost all rooms are close to bus stop. The pool is great and has a big water serpent slide for the kids. I have never stayed at any other mods so this is all I can help you with. Have fun.

My vote would definitely be for POR. We've stayed there several times. It is our favorite moderate and we would choose it over some deluxe resorts. The river is so nice, there is fishing, boats, bicycles, and the boat to DTD. The food court is great, and Boatwrights is pretty good, too. They have LOTS of pools, but the main pool is really appealing for kids. Go here and check out the photos of POR. We always request a certain building close to the food court and always get it. My DD and DH both have had knee surgeries due to sports injuries, so walking all day in the parks is bad enough on them. We like to be close to the food court to cut down on the walking.

If I was you I would stay at the Caribbean Beach Resort. It's a big step up from the value resorts. The differences between the two are food and outdoor activities. The moderate resorts have boat rentals and better pools. Food courts are also better with at least one sit down restaurant. Caribbean beach is my favorite moderate. Have fun.

We stayed at POR last summer.
It was great!
They have a playground & fishing for the kids.
You can also take a boat ride from the resort to DTD.
POFQ, next door, has a pool w/ a dragon slide.
Mousekeeping made little scenes for the kids w/ their Disney plush toys almost every day.
They have TS & CS (Boatwright's Dining Hall & Rivermill Food Court).
They also have a nice souvenir shop just off of the lobby area.
Yes, you can request a bottom level room close to the lobby & bus stops (although you may have to pay a preferred rate).
Hope this helps!

Mod rooms: 314 sq. ft. (except CBR rooms, 340 sq. ft.)
Value rooms: 260 sq. ft.

Mod rooms: two sinks (except CSR), free fridge, ceiling fan
Value rooms: none of the above

Mods: table-service AND food court (except POFQ, no table-service)
Value: food court only

Mods: main pool has a pool slide, and nearby Jacuzzi
Values: no slide, no Jacuzzi

Mods: Bell Services (on-demand help, for luggage as well as other packages/deliveries)
Values: Luggage Assistance (by appointment, luggage-only)

Mods: covered bus stops
Values: not covered bus stops (think rain and hot sun)

Mods: more lush landscaping
Values: more themed hardscaping

Mods: You're at Disney World!!!
Values: You're at Disney World!!!

If walking is a sensitive issue, then POFQ is a no-brainer. The resort is so (relatively) small that no room is too far from the food court or main pool or buses. At CSR and POR it's true that you can request a building relatively close to the action, but that request is by no means a guarantee. At CBR, you can pay extra per night for what's called "preferred location," meaning one of the six buildings closest to the food/pool complex.

I only had stayed at values until Dec. I loved POFQ. It was awesome! We were in building 4 on the back side. We walked out our door, down through a garden, across a corner of the parking lot right to the bus stop. It was great. We were also right beside the food court and main building. The gift shop was really nice. It seemed to have a good selection.

No matter which one you pick, you'll have a great time!

If you want less walking then stay at POFQ. I stayed there at Christmas because the person I was traveling with has a bad back. It was perfect for her. The food court and gift shop did seem smaller than other though. We did walk over to POR one day. The gift shop there is awesome! I also stayed at CSR last month. We were fortunate to have a room near the convention hall so walking to the shop/food court area was very short. They also have a nice gift shop. Did not care for the set up of the food court though (where they seat you and you take a ticket, get your food, eat and pay on the way out). I would rater get what I want, pay, and go where I want to eat. Just me though. Don't think you can go wrong no matter your choice. Have FUN!:D

If walking is an issue, go for Port Orleans French Quarter..it is the smallest resort and everything is compact. Ask for building #4, which is closest to both the bus stop and food court, and the pool is also close. It is well-themed, beautiful at night, and there is less hustle and bustle than a lot of the resorts. And don't hesitate to tell them of your RA, and ask for a good room location in addition to your building request. I stayed at POFQ with a cast on my leg due to a broken ankle, and it was a good choice. Have fun!
