Going in May

I wanted to ask you folks on your thoughts on going to Disney world the first week in May? It seems like the crowds would be fairly low, since spring breaks will be over and school will still in session. My family has been a ton, but never at that time of year. Any thoughts or feed back would be great. Thanks

Great time to go! You will miss spring breakers and you will be before school gets out. FYI, some nights they have Grad Nights and the MK or other parks might have events going on so just be mindful of the schedule for park hours. :)

I think its a great time to go! We have gone several times in the beginning of May. Usually the second week and we have had great weather (there will be a pop up storm here and there, but temps are perfect) and crowds are very managable. Utilize the fastpass system and you will have no problems.

That is great feedback, thank you all. When you say the crowds are manageable. how wold you compare the crowds in the beginning of may to the beginning or middle of September?

We went the first weekend in May last year, and we're going the first weekend in May this year! It's a great time to go - the longest we waited for a ride was 40 minutes, and that was for Toy Story Mania (40 minutes!) The weather is fantastic, too, and as others have mentioned, the Flower & Garden festival is lovely. Alas, you'll still need ADRs for nearly everything, but that's the way it goes these days.

So how was the May trip?

So how was the May trip? where the crowds bad? Hope you had a great time.

We had a fantastic week. The weather was picture-perfect, sunny with a cool breeze. Cast members were remarking how delighted they were that it was neither humid nor hot, which was a bit unusual for that time of year. It was warm enough for swimming. We had light evening rain one night, but were already back at our resort so it wasn't an issue for us.

The parks were busier on the weekend than during the week, but even the most popular attractions never had more than a 45 minute wait. We only had 10-15 minute waits for the things we wanted to do. We only waited 20 minutes for lunch at Be Our Guest (that includes waiting in line, ordering and having our food delivered.)

The floral arrangements and topiaries at Epcot's Flower and Garden Festival were beautiful.

The only negative was the flies...they were a nuisance...believe the fly issue was discussed in another thread! The lovebugs were not a problem.

Thanks for asking!

We need time for things to happen.
First week of may is absolutely the BEST time to stay.
That was our time to go and we had picture perfect weather for 7 years straight. hot in the sun cool in the shade (except our last year it was a little warmer than usual).
A total of 2 hours of rain total ALL 7 weeks combined.

Crowds are moderate and completely manageable, especially for park pros.

We had to switch or yearly trips to the end of September. We miss May desperately.
My daughter is in high school (smart kid -not such a good student) so taking her out of school in September has been much easier as they don't dive to deep in the beginning of the year.

September is ok, but it's NOT May.

Our 1st trip there was the 1st week of May 2 years ago and it was great! The temps were in the upper 80's low 90's and low humidity, and for us it was great. The Gardena bushes were in full bloom at CSR at it was so nice. I didn't think the crowd levels were to bad either.
