Gold plan(restuarant suggestions)

My sister and I are going to Walt Disney World this Summer (june 5th to june 20th) on the DreamMaker Gold plan (first time), so we will trying to eat at 42 different restaurants (that's how many meals altogether).
We will definately be doing some Character breakfasts and the 2 dinner shows but we would like to get some input of what restaurants are the best to try and what ones are not worth it (even though it is prepaid and we can order anything we want we want the best dining experience possible).
Also if anyone can tell us what tours
and recreation activities they enjoyed,or their experience with the Deluxe Magic plan(said to be almost the same as Gold plan it would be appreciated.
We will be staying 10 nights at the Caribbean beach and last 4 nights at AK Lodge (savannah view) so any input on these resorts appreciated also.

Thanks for any help,

Go to Ohana. It may not be the fanciest of places, but the food cannot be beat. You have so many places to dine take one out of that amount and go there.

I must tell you, we used to go on Discovery Magic Plan...it just got to the point that it felt like we were eating to get our moneys worth and not for the enjoyment.... we were always looking for the lobster or veal chops..even at lunch...I couldnt handle it...getting old, I guess.

Whats funny is that 15% gratuity is included so the cast members would, of course suggest the most expensive items...twist my arm. My wife actually had creme brulee 5 nights in a row...ugh.

I remember one time, the server at Wolfgang Pucks talked me out of a pizza (goat cheese)..."if I was on discovery magic on my vacation..I'd get pumpkin ravioli followed by .......etc

My advice is eat what you want (it takes discipline) and dont worry about the economics of your plan...they always win in the end...

All of the above aside...my top ten WDW restaurants( non buffet) are:

1. Flying Fish Cafe
2. House of Blues
3. Wolfgang Puck
4. Le Cellier
5. Mitsukoshi
6. Palio (best kept secret)
7. Narcoosees
8. Portobello Yacht Club
9. Ohana
10. Artist Point
11. Bongos (I couldn't leave it out)

Obviously we havent been to some places (we have little children) but this list comes from 14 years of Disney dining.

I agree try Flying Fish, very good! Awesome restaurants too!

Rainforest cafe isn't great food but it has an EXTREMELY AWESOME atmosphere! It's definantly something to check out if you've never gone before.

Can't really think of anything else at the moment... You might want to check out the 50's Primetime Diner it's really fun!

That's all for now! Hope it helps:kiss: !

The gold plan, is the step above what the Discovery Magic used to be. They will be getting every meal paid for (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

I couldn't see myself sitting and eating every meal at Disney. I wouldn't want to waste all the time, and I wouldn't be able to handle all the food. I wouldn't mind dinner every night though.

Chef Mickey's for a character breakfast...awesome.

Teppanyaki in Japan in Epcot...fun to watch your food cooked in front of you.

I personally enjoy Rose and Crown in England in Epcot...but many other people don't. Guess its personal choice.

San Angel Inn in Mexico in Epcot...great atmosphere.

Sci-Fi Drive-In in MGM...fun to watch old sci-fi movie clips while sitting in a "car" eating.

Concourse Steakhouse in Contemporary...one of my top 5 restaurants at WDW, great food and great views.

Regardless, there is still a tendency to see if you are getting your $ worth

Of course there is...I wasn't saying there wasn't. I just said that I couldn't see doing it.

When we were thinking of going with the Discovery Magic, we found out that they wanted you to spend 75 dollars per person per day on food. That means that the kids and the adults were eating for 75 dollars per day each. You know how hard that is for an adult...and especially for a child. Just doesn't make sense to me.

Thanks to everyone's opinions so far.

I have been to a couple of those restaurants definately going to try Ohana's and Flying Fish.

It's $139/a day per person but that is also for recreation, tours, and food plus the other extras.

We decided to book this gold plan so we could go all out and not have to itemize every penny plus we wanted to splurge for once.

Keep those suggestions coming and anyone's experiences with the tours and recreations

Thanks Again,

No one has mentioned Yachtsman Steakhouse.

I haven't been there, but it was featured on the Travel Channel segment on the Yacht/Beach Club. Looked very "rich" -- dark wood and lots of brass, plus there is that slab of beef.

It would be on my list if money (and cholesterol) were no object.

I also enjoyed Restaurant Marrakesh in Morocco. I am not an adventurous eater, but it was very good and different food. (One of our vacation goals is to "get something you can't get at home").

Contrary to what many people think, Moroccan food (at least at Marrakesh) isn't spicy hot from peppers. They do use different spices (especially cinnamon) that gives the food a distinctive flavor. Plus, there is the belly dancer.............

Here is a review and pictures of Marrakesh.

Cannot recommend 'Ohana highly enough. However, if you don't like grilled meat, you will feel left out. It is the centerpiece of the dinner.

Another one I'd like to try is Artist's Point at Wilderness Lodge. Here is another review with photos .

Have been to Morocco restaurant but are definately gooing again this next trip(food was good, sister didn't like Lamb but loved everything else)

Went to Ohana's 5 years ago when it was a buffet(enjoyed it).

And definately want to try Yachtsman steak house and some of the ones Marijil and Orangefan suggested(especially Bongo's).

We used the Discovery plan last year and loved it. Be careful about the Downtown Disney restaurants because they do not all participate in the plan. My parents ( who were on the now Gold plan) could not use it at the Rainforest Cafe.

My recommendation would be Whispering Canyon Cafe at WL. Great food and fun! We also went all out at the Coral Reef!

You can also use your meal vouchers at places like Pinocchios. It doesn't always have to be sit down meals.

Enjoy!!
