Going fulltime after program

I'm currently in the CP and would like to go full time when it ends in a few weeks (going to college down here). Can anyone share any advice on how to go about that? My managers arn't the greatest so naturally I've been getting different answers from them and each one telling me to talk to another one. Casting said to contact them shortly before my program ends (I plan to contact them in the next few days - when I'm not at work).

Do I just simply call casting and say I want to go full time in my location and thats that? One of my managers said you have to wait a week or so after your program ends before you can start full time? Is that true?

I was planning on going home for a weekish after my program ends to visit family and pack up the rest of my stuff. Would it be a problem to start full time a weekish after the end date of my program or will they want me to start ASAP?

Thanks for all your help. If you got any tips on how to make the change go smoothly then please share.

My understanding is that it's kind of a joint thing between Casting and your area managers. You may have to go through Casting to get your status changed, but your department will have to make a full-time position available first. I'm not sure about having to work right away or not.

I went seasonal after my program and I imagine it might be a similar process- especially since I told them I wanted to switch immediately so that I could stay and work for a week right after my program ended. I talked to my manager, and he said that since it takes some time to switch over in their systems, I would work for that week still in the computer as a CP, and then they would go back after and fix my pay. Then he told me I needed to go to Access Control and get an ID that was good for only that week, and to call scheduling and have them schedule me for that week. It all worked out perfectly!

I'm doing the CP next semester and I have the same plans as the OP, so as much advice as you all can give will be appreciated! Thanks! :)

You might not be able to stay fulltime in your area, they need a spot to offer you. If you can't seem to get answers from your managers, try the Cast Services Managers in your area. They've always seemed pretty helpful to me, so maybe the can work with you on putting everything into motion.

now that you mention it, I think it was my cast service managers who I talked to.... heck I couldn't even name any of my managers! lol

and for the poster who is going to do the CP and wants to go FT after- make sure that you keep your record card super clean and really get to know the higher ups in your area. I saw a few people that couldn't make the status change because of a bad record card

I worked in entertainment for a number of years there and helped transition the character department at the Studios to working with CPs so I will throw in my 2 cents worth on this.

Please, please, please make sure you finish your school before you make this committment. I know that you have had fun there on your job, but I have seen too many CPers go FT after their program, they hadn't graduated yet and heard "Oh, well I am transferring to Valencia, UCF, Rollins, etc."

IT NEVER HAPPENED.

They went full time, dropped out of school, then got frustrated when they felt dead-ended.

I messed up my first shot at school. At 43 I will graduate next year, but it was not easy going back so late.

Finish now. Then you can work where ever you want for the rest of your life.

I used to corner people in Characters who signed the FT list and say "Did you graduate, yet?...Then why is your name on this list?" (That was the people that I liked, who I knew would be offered a position.)

Just my 2cents.

Do as you please, but think about it:D

you know, it's funny how many people told me that while I was down there... I heard the "disney isn't going anywhere- it will still be here when you finish school" line quite a bit.... I almost stayed, but last minute decided to just drop to seasonal while I came home to finish school.... I've been home for almost a year now and honestly not a day has gone by that I haven't missed being there (well except for the week when I went back to work :D) ..... but I'm glad I did it. I definitely knew quite a few people who were in the same situation you mentioned, and they were really regretting things... so coming from someone who had to make that choice, I'll say amen to what he said

yea, I've heard this mentioned before. Trust me, I will do whatever it takes to stay with Disney :) I'm hardly ever sick and I don't know of anything major that I'll have to call-out for, so I'm happy that I'll be able to keep a clean record. :D

Thanks for being so open and honest about this. I've weighed my options and I've decided that because of my situation, I want to stay with Disney FT and finish school in Orlando. Regardless of whether I would be working at Disney or not, I planned on going to UCF for their great Hospitality program, and I am deciding to complete my A.A. with Valencia. Yea, I know to you I sound like all the others , but I have a scholarship that I don't really have the choice of "taking a break" in school. I will do whatever it takes, and I know it won't be a breeze, but that's just how much I want to work at Disney :D.

Thanks for all the help and tips.

I went to the cast service people they pointed me to casting. Casting is closed for the holidays so yeah things haven't been going exactly smooth. According to a few people I know who just started there isn't any positions available for operations (though they claim after alittle begging the person at casting found an opening in operations - at Sunset Blvd). I have a perfect record card and my managers said they would be "gald to have be stay here" is there something they(or anyone) can to do squeeze me in?

So cross your fingers I get everything worked out.

How ironic. My friends in entertainment tell me the same thing- "finish school, Disney will still be here". So I am still in school, hope to graduate next Dec, and then go FT hopefully.
