I think that's referring to how when a soft drink is filled so full that you put a straw in and it starts pooling out onto the lid and up through the straw.

At Potterland one is warned to not put a straw in the regular Butterbeer. The cover story is the straw is a non-magic invention which can destabilize the Butterbeer spell. They straws are meant for the frozen Butterbeer which is resistant to non-magic items.

The reality is, carbonated drink + heavy cream foam cap + straw = mess. Inserting the straw causes bubbles in the carbonated part and the foam cap traps the bubbles pushing it up and out of the cup.

LeFou's Brew only comes in a frozen version, therefore no explosion.

That one they had to stir it vigorously. When we were there we saw one that went off right when the straw went in.

Probably depends on temperature of the drink, ambient temperature, the strength of one's imagination, etc etc...
