Girl Meets World

True, but I was a child at the time they aired these programs, and I was thoroughly entertained every time the Vault Disney segment aired. A sign of the times, I guess.
You're not alone. More than anything I think it comes down to not wanting to pay someone to program that segment. This is made worse because one would have to be a Waltie to properly do the job, and I'm guessing Walties are not looked upon favorably in that part of the Company.

Yeah, I guess you're right. It looks like I'll have to get these programs on DVD, if I can even find them.

You can get the complete series of Zorro from Disney Movie Rewards. A lot of stuff, like the complete collection of the Walt Disney Anthology Series (Disneyland / Wonderful World of Color) has never been released.

Zorro was one of my favorite shows to watch. I will look out for the DVD, but it's tragic that the others have never been released. I'm going to look through the Treasures line on Amazon and eBay.

@raven24 and @lazyboy97o , I agree with most of your sentiments.

Two additional comments:
1. As for children, to a large degree it is all in what you expect. If you feed them an entire diet of cheesy one-liner sit-coms, or even sarcastic "Family Guy" fare, that is what they are going to respond to -- and come to expect; but if you give them a diet that includes better writing (as long as it is age-appropriate), and an affinity for classier Disney shows or sitcoms, they will appreciate them as well, and come to expect them. We don't need to dumb everything down.
2. Disney used to know (and really master) how to develop long-term fans and trust by keeping the classics out front along with the current. Vault Disney and the classic films on the Disney Channel were a part of that, as were theatrical re-releases; but so also were the commercials like this. It reached parents while seasoning the kids to like Disney in the long term.

So, bringing us back to topic, I think that comment number one above, if heeded, would help this show succeed and have legs on into the futre. If not, it will be flash in the pan.

Just watched this last night. I enjoyed it, but thought the show was extremely dumbed down even for kids...I do not remember the original show being so "dumb" like that at all. The new show appeals to young girls a lot, but it should be a show that appeals to kids and their parents who grew up watching the show! I will continue to watch as it looks like there r several cameos! And I totally was thinking the whole time that Farkle kid was a bad Minkus rip off...it was funny to see in the extended season preview that it's actually Minkus's son!

I think that we are expecting too much from this show, for a few reasons. First, it was just the first episode. First episodes are always kind of lousy because they have to spend too much time establishing characters. Second, we need to remember that the targeted viewers of this show don't typically know anything about the original show. As such, it doesn't matter that characters are modeled after the old characters. Finally, we are looking at the old show through rose colored goggles.

1. The pilot episode contained that typical Disney Channel formula they use for their shows nowadays; actors and actresses that overact, some corny lines and the laugh track that just won't stop. I think it's safe to say if they continue to stick with this formula, it won't rest that easy with those of us that didn't like the pilot.

2. That targeted viewers are indeed the fans of Boy Meets World. There's a reason why they continuously interviewed the old cast about the show and about coming back for appearances. I remember on the night the pilot aired, all my FB friends commented on the show. If you look up reviews online, they are by adults who love Boy Meets World. The writers are trying to pull the BMW fans in by basically setting up the new characters like the old ones and having cameos, such as Minkis and Mr. Feeny.

3. No one is looking at the show through rose-colored goggles. We're simply talking about quality.

Ou guys are expecting more out of this show than it is possible for it to give, in my opinion. You are dooming yourself to dissatisfaction.

I just think a lot of us were expecting the same level of quality the old show had. Yes I understand this is on the Disney channel and it is geared more for kids, but like I said before, it needs to appeal to both kids and their parents who grew up watching the original.

You know a great example of a "new" show within an old show is Dallas! It both heavily features the old cast members but also splits that time 50/50 with the younger family, and they do a great job at it, gaining new younger viewers but also maintaining the older crowd that used to watch the old show!

I guess I just wish it was disneyfied instead of disneydumbed like a lot of their recent programming has been.

It's a kids' show.

So? Doesn't mean it can't be good.

No, we are expecting it to be well-written. There is a reason that certain FAMILY shows (not just "kids' shows") like Boy Meets World stay in reruns so long, and are well-known well beyond their orginal run, while others disappear and no one cares.

It is because they are good family shows. Are they Shakespeare? No. But they did not talk down to the kids. They may have used slapstick and fun, but they also had characters that we could care about -- and were not only caricatures with one-liners.

Kids love ice cream. But do you only feed then ice cream?

You sound like the logic of the people who usually wonder why we care about Walt Disney feature animation: "Aren't they just cartoons? Why put so much effort into the quality? I mean, they could have saved so much money on Lion King if they had not spent so much effort on drawing such rich and detailed backgrounds on that opening scene, or animated so many running zebras when a few would have told the same story. It's just a cartoon kids' movie for goodness sake..."
