Gift Cards for no room service

We frequently come back to the hotel after lunch and stay there until about 4ish... right about the time period that mousekeeping typically comes by. As the kids typically nap then, we usually just get towels and have them otherwise pass the room by... so, it wouldn't be much different for us, plu we'd get a gift card... win/win in my book!

Anyone here a DVC member? We come to WDW for a 2 week vacation annually. I already throw towels in the washer often, especially when they seem to have gotten mixed up. I prefer not having housekeeping people in the room a lot. So one sheet change mid-stay (I don't change sheets every 4 days at home so I don't need them changed that often on vacation) would be all I need. Imagine the number of gift cards I could accumulate! Grand idea!

In the past I would have jumped in this. I don't mind a slightly messy room, and I'm always up for free gift cards. Then we traveled with my 2 year old and ate breakfast in the room daily. He's basically a crumb monster. I HAD to get mousekeeping every day to vacuum his crumb explosion. I don't think I realized how much "cleaning up" my dog does at home

I'd definitely opt out of the daily cleanings to get the gift cards as long as I could call down and get new towels from whomever.

The Marriott that I stay at when on business travel has been offering points in exchange for no housekeeping ever since the Starwood merger. I'd absolutely opt-in for this in exchange for a gift card -- it's not like that's money I'm not already spending elsewhere on property anyway, and it's easy enough to call down for a fresh set of towels or an extra set of bath products if we need them. Is it a cost-saving measure on WDW's part? Of course. But if it's one that comps me a couple of Epcot bevvies each day, then I'm all for it. :p

Maybe they are on to something. I use the pools several times each day. Maybe if I opt out of showers and promise to use public restrooms to conserve my Resort on their utility bills I can receive a gift card.

If everybody did that, they'd have to increase the bromine dose to uncomfortable levels.

We just got back from a 3 night stay at POFQ and they offered this to each room in our party. The offer was a gift card that was loaded with a credit of $15 for every day you opted out of housekeeping. We were still able to request fresh towels, soap and shampoo each day, but had to call housekeeping when we wanted them. We would just put our towels to be replaced in a bag in front or our room and they would exchange them for us. It was a surprising offer to us, but one we took them up on since we usually put the "Do not disturb" sign in the door anyway. Take advantage of it while you can, when they see the offer is being taken so often they will probably lower the amount per day or discontinue the offer completely.

I hope they are still doing this in October. I have 9 nights between POR and POFQ. I am travelling solo and bring and wash my own sheets(allergy reasons), so I am happy to switch out trash bags and grab some towels/soap, etc for the extra $135. That's a lot of dole whips. :D

Multiple reports are coming out that people are being offered a $20 gift card a day for not having their rooms cleaned. I guess this is a test at Value resorts only. Would you take it? If I am staying in a Deluxe on an extended vacation and paying Deluxe prices then no I don't think so. If I am over for a few nights in a Moderate then sure I will take $40. Curious if this has legs.

I know this is standard practice for DVC resorts so they are likely testing it out to go resort wide. I wish if they did lower the amount of cleaning days, that they would be more thorough on the in-between guest cleaning. I have seen so many times when I go to the resorts that there are hard water stains on the shower head, light mold in the corners of the tubs.

If I was head of housecleaning I would be a nightmare about cleanliness standards. Vacuum and a light wipe down is not sufficient enough with todays germs and infectious molecules floating about.

I would jump on it! We clean up after ourselves, we re-use towels, etc. already, so the difference to my family would be minimal. As far as I'm concerned, a $15 GC would save us $20-$25 per day (the cost of the GC + the cost of the tips we'd have been leaving) -- enough for a round of snacks for the family, or a couple of Disney-priced beers! We're essentially getting paid to make our own bed (or not). :)

I've read on others sites that if you take them up on this, they will see how many can do without cleaning & then will NOT offer cleaning in the future unless you PAY to have your rooms cleaned. So, if this were true, taking the gift cards now will hurt you in the future.
