getting the spouse interested in the planning...

I just stumbled on a way to get my DH interested in our trip. So far he has shown no interest whatsoever. Last night though I accidentally left my "Unofficial Guide...." book out where he could find it, and this morning he was all full of ideas. LOL!

Maybe there is hope for us to make ADRs afterall, but I'm not betting on it.

I was way more excited than DH about our October trip. I did get him to sit down and pick dining locations with me, then I had HIM call and make the ADRs. I was surprised at how excited he was when he was able to get everything we wanted, I think he is getting in the spirit now, though probably still not as much as me!

Yeah...can't seem to manage this yet. I have had my spreadsheet ready for him to see for a long time now. I keep asking him to look and make changes as needed but he doesn't look. Oh well...he can't complain if he doesn't like something then. But he did say we had to eat at Chef Mickey's and at the PR...which we are.:)

OP-

Have you ordered the Planning DVD? I know I'm a visual person and seeing something makes it more real for me & brings it to life. Or you could try taping or using your DVR to record some WDW specials. They come on the Travel Channel ALL the time! Just do a search for them. Maybe he might get more into the planning if he sees a little of what he'll get to do in person?

The planning is down to me !!! I pour over the Park Hours, EMH Days, Parade and Firework days and times; then I draw up a schedule. The wife then casts her eye over that and when it has the seal of approval we then go onto to talking about ADRs.

Its a bit of a joint effort but I do all the hard work :ROFLOL:

I was very disappointed by the Planning DVD. I thought it would be much better than it is. I have played it a few times on my computer, which is good because then you can skip the sections you don't need, but still, overall.. not as comprehensive as I was hoping for.

As to the shows on the Travel Channel, yes we have watched some of those "Samantha Brown's favorites... Disney on a Dime, and Disney Splurge...." They are fun, but they haven't really done much for THIS trip. DH has ideas for a future trip, but we don't have a date/year in mind for the next trip yet.

I ask mine what his favorite things to eat are then book it accordingly. He answered "fish" so I gave him Coral Reef. He said "wow, this place is really fun, I love the food and fish tank!"

Two years ago he tried to tell me that there were other places we could vacation as a family. Now he is telling me how great it would be to go without our girls. :sohappy:

GOOD LUCK!!

Wish I could help. My DH is just as involved as I am. He gets just as excited about all the details as I do.

We are currently working on our own version of a 'Disney Passport' for your September trip. He has done most of the hard work on it.

I'm the planner in our house although my Wife is as much of a Disney geek as me. She leaves me to read these boards, figure out whats new, best places to eat, best parks to visit on each day, what events are happening each day etc whilst she reads about the imagineering and history of the parks.

Pretty much every day in the run up to a trip we will talk about what we want to do and make all the ADR's etc between us.

I guess I'm lucky that I found someone who cares as much as I do

My dad is one who doesn't always feel the Disney magic. So my mom leaves him at home most of the time. Two years ago we decided to get the whole family together at WDW so to make the experiance more to my dad's liking we booked a fishing excurstion.

He loved it! Right after we got back from the boat he called his friends and gushed about how many fish he had cought. It even stoped his "We've seen this before" complaining for almost 2 days. Even now, when we talk about the trip, my dad always brings it back to the fishing.

You do all the FUN work! I love the planning!!!

Unfortunately my new boyfriend likes to fish and hunt... and that's about all. He doesn't like crowds. - sigh - I don't think I'll ever get him to WDW. I'll have to try to temp him with a fishing excursion like the last post mentioned. Any other ideas to help me convert him?
