Getting Married at Disney

I realize that lots and lots of people get married at WDW every year (shout out @Mr_Bernard) But how about impromptu weddings in the park?

Maybe it's just me and I've been oblivious (this probably happens more often than I realize). This past weekend I saw 2 of these.

The first was at the smoking section in EPCOT (just past France near the bridge towards the UK.......view was nice...but....) and the second was at DS on that back walkway behind HoB near the Jaleo construction (overlooking the lake).

I don't necessarily have a problem with it, just can't remember seeing that before. In both cases - it was bride and groom - (dressed normally - no gowns or tuxes) - and a friend (considering how they carried on) serving as Justice of the Peace.

Which got me thinking......Does Disney have a policy on that?

I cannot remember the official Disney policy on this, but I do remember a conversation about this years ago. It is not allowed - I believe that is a property wide rule. There have been plenty of these stealth weddings over the years, but they do all they can to stop it. They sell this service, so it makes sense they would not allow it to happen otherwise. It would probably fall under the "unauthorized events" prohibition.

I “officially” got married down there, but have never seen the stealth marriage.... I def think that’s cooler and more original than seeing 4 couples get engaged within a 5 min period in front of the castle

I would imagine it’s frowned upon, but I mean if it’s 3 people - why or how they’d stop that- idk

I used to want to get married at Disney....but after looking at prices and visiting my cast member friend’s wedding this year I realized just how insanely expensive it is there for anything. Sorry, but can’t justify spending that much when it could be used for a house down payment or new car.

I totally think the pop-up quick weddings are the way to go if you don’t have tens of thousands to splurge on a Disney wedding. Good for them.

I know you cannot wear a wedding dress into MK but you can schedule an appointment to take pictures in front of the castle. I believe it is done either 6 am or late night and must be done by a disney photographer. last I heard cost was about $2500.00 but I don't know what that includes.

I've always said that if I take the plunge again I wanted to get married at the chapel by the Boardwalk resort on the walkway over to Epcot

I've always wanted to get married on Main Street with the after party taking place in the Odyssey in EPCOT. All I gotta do is find a girl that's as nuts about the parks as I am. :hilarious:
Have you researched the cost of your dream? LOL. If you can afford that and your only requirement is that the girl love the parks enough to let you pay for this, it shouldn’t be too hard.

Obviously I’m joking 🙃

We originally wanted a Disney wedding, but through Disney or a secret pop-up, we weren’t able to get all of our families and friends there (you are forcing them all to pay for a vacation). We also didn’t want our families there for our honeymoon! So, wedding at home and honeymoon at WDW.

There is a wedding subforum here, can poke around there for more info.

Officially, they don't allow it. And if you enter property dressed up, they have the right to ask you to leave. Ditto if you use an officiant or photographer who wants to do legit weddings for Disney, they may essentially be blacklisted if WDW catches them doing a wedding w/o their approval.

My least favorite posts around here are the "You don't have to be wealthy to do Disney, we can do it for $400 a week!" But I do have to say that we've been saving for three years for our wedding. I know, ridiculous. But then, so am I.

So excited for you! My husband and I want to renew our vows at Disney (well, I do, and he wants me happy, so therefore he does too :hilarious:) I think the goal is the Canada Pavilion. Still have a couple years until then. Please post some pics of your wedding if you are comfortable with it! I'd love to see them!

It's strongly frowned upon by the parks, and not something that they want happening. If they find out ahead of time, they will try to "discourage" it from happening. While I haven't seen one, I've heard a couple of stories (unverified) of security breaking up the wedding and/or escorting the couple out of the parks afterwards. I don't know if that's true or not, and it seems harsh, but not something they like.

When I was in photopass, we were encouraged to watch for engagements and do everything we could to shoot them if we saw one and had the opportunity. We were also told to make sure we didn't shoot any photos of what might look like a wedding or any other type of ceremony like that, but to let park officials and/or security handle it.
