Getting into a desired role?

Hey guys I'm very interested in the wdw college program, as quite a few people are, was wondering how difficult it is to get into you first choice role in the college program. I've heard from some people that they got things they didn't really want while I've heard of some people getting their top choice. Will having experience in a specific job help get the role you want? (for example attractions). At the moment I work at Six Flags Great Adventure in the ride operations department and am certified for three coasters and plan on staying there for another season or so before applying for the college program.

I wonder if qualifications have something to do with it. My 1st choice was character attendant but I was put in transportation, my 2nd choice. I'm guessing this has something to do with being a commercial pilot, having a CDL and having a coast guard safe boater's cert.

I got my 2nd choice as well. I wanted something hospitality related (either front desk, concierge, or full service food and beverage). I got FSF&B probably because I have experience in it. If you nail the interview, I bet you can get your top choice. Only say yes to the roles you truly want to do, unless you will do anything because you just want to work at WDW. If you say yes to QSFB or custodial, you'll most likely be put in those because they are the hardest for them to fill. Good luck! Prepare like crazy. I looked around forums for possible interview questions, and wrote them all down...It was a great reference during the interview haha.

I think it can also be random selection. For my 6 CPs, I've gotten my third choice, second choice, first choice, first choice, second choice, and first choice (and for all 6, I had no background experience in the role).

I guess I got lucky, I got my first choice which was costuming. Though I had experience in theater costuming work, so maybe that had something to do with it? (even though the costuming role really doesn't have anything to do with that)

I definitely think you can kinda steer what role you want based on qualifications. I had a buddy who put transportation as his #2 and mentioned he could drive boats and ended up getting that and driving boats his CP!

Personally I didnt have experience in attractions, but I'm an engineering major and emphasized that I wanted to be in attractions as my #1 to be able to see the inner working of the operations and what not and it worked out for me.

Thanks for the replies guys, it looks like background experience could help. I definetly hope it will because I would loveeee to get into attractions :)
