Getting in to watch Illuminations

I had a question, I know they used to allow people in from the entrance from a Disney boardwalk for free just before Illuminatins started. Does anyone know if they still do this? I am a passholder but have a friend who is not and would like to surprise them to watch.

We have entered Epcot from the International Gateway more times than I can count over the years and it it has always required a valid ticket regardless of time of day. When were you able to get in free?

I have never seen CMs allow anyone let in for free. Technically Illuminations begins at park closing or shortly after so they stop letting people in at park close. I would assume it is all up to the CMs at the gate.

That said, if you want to see fireworks, go to the Contemporary 4th floor patio or Polynesian beach to watch the MK fireworks.

Perhaps you're thinking of the "Shopping Pass," where people would buy a ticket, run in and shop for an hour or two, then exit the park with a ticket refund...
