We want to plan a WDW vacation. I've been to DisneyLand tons of time and we stay at Pack Vu inn right across the street and that totally works for us. My dad is in a wheelchair and he gets tired alot and wants to head back mid day and eve for naps and breaks. I'm not sure how to get around from park to park at WDW sounds huge! Whats my best best? Does his wheelchair fit on disney bus or monorails? Do monorails go park to park? What better? Where should I stay? Thank for all imput:)

This is a loaded question, but I will help where I can.

Wheelchairs can get on all buses and on the monorails. The monorails only travel between the Magic Kingdom/TTC (MK parking lot)/Polynesian/Contemporary/Grand Floridian. There is another line that travels between Epcot and the TTC. Transportation to each park, Downtown Disney, and the water parks is provided in some form from each Disney resort on a frequent basis. So getting around in a wheelchair is not a problem.

As far as where you should stay, you might want to consult with a travel agent since there are a lot of variables involved. Unlike Disneyland, WDW has a lot of options to meet different budgets and amenities. If you aren't familiar with planning a WDW trip you are definitely going to want some assistance. I recommend contacting one of the Kingdom Konsultant agents and they will be happy to assist you.

I highly recommend Kingdom Konsultants as well. I'm a DL local and you can't compare the 2 resorts. Pick up a copy of the Unofficial Guide. I read it cover to cover before my first trip and it helped immensely.

Does he operate the wheelchair under his own power or does someone push him?

My exwife was in a wheelchair. We've used scooters, manual wheelchairs, and automatic wheelchairs. We never had an issue getting in and out of anywhere within WDW. Almost every bus is accessible. I say almost, cause I'm sure there are one or two that may not be equipped yet.

Monorails are no issue as well. The monorail staff keep their eyes out, and will assist you on. They will also ask you about your next stop, and radio ahead so they're waiting on you when you arrive.

My ex used to go back to the room occasionally to rest and never had an issue doing it by herself in a powered wheelchair while I took the kids out.

we did our first trip with my dad using a scooter this past may. we stayed at ssr and had no problem with him getting on/off the bus or monorail. if i needed a place to get to/from without spending a ton of time traveling i'd stay at one of the monorail resorts. i'm staying at the poly in mid august for 3 nights for exactly this type of access but for this trip it's because my granddaughter and i are traveling alone.
